Our project

Surname DNA testing is the newest tool available to genealogists. These tests help genealogists verify their paternal ancestry (father's father) in a quick and easy way. It saves time, prevents mistakes, and provides invaluable data that can be obtained in no other way.

To help researchers on common or related families work together to find their common heritage (see the Patriarch page).

To identify the DNA of the ancestor families and compile them and their lost branches into distinct genetic lineages through DNA matches.

Bring together Mitchells who have tested with other DNA companies. If you want to compare your results to our members, go to ysearch and upload for free.

The Next Step: Joining the Mitchell DNA project

Other links

The Mitchell DNA website has eight pages. Feel free to explore them, by clicking on the boxes at the top of this page. For pricing information, click on the Recruitment page. We offer discounted prices from time to time, so if you are having trouble justifying or affording the cost, please email me (Sara Allen) at the address listed at the bottom of this page. Discounts, when they are offered, are on the 25 or 37 marker tests only. I recommend the 37 marker test, but you can always upgrade at a later date, if you wish.

The process is simple. Everything is done by mail, and no needles are involved. After joining, you will be mailed a DNA collection kit within a few days. The kit contains 3 cheek swab samples. Follow the directions carefully, and mail your kit back along with the signed consent form. Your results will come back in about 6-8 weeks and be posted on the results page.

When you are ready to join the project, click here to order a DNA test. Fill out the information on the page. For the type of test, select YDNA 12, 25, 37 or 67. I recommend Y-25 or Y-37 as being the least you would want to do, for more accurate results. Press the “continue” button at the bottom of the page, and follow the instructions from there.

We ask that all members submit a pedigree to be posted on the Patriarch Page of this project. In addition, we can post the researcher's email address, if desired; so that in case of a match, others can contact you. The researcher can be a different person than the person tested.
