Janos (John) Szabo
DOB: November 17, 1897 in Biharcsanálos, Micskei jarás (Micske district), Hungary

Parents: Peter & Maria Burke Szabo (per family bible and Ohio Marriage License #109508 filed 6/19/1916).  Mary Burke was born in 1871.

Siblings: Paul (lived in Fekete-Tót, Tenkei jarás, [Tenke district], Bihar, Hungary---info found on Ellis Island record for Maria & Janos Szabo); per family oral history, there may also have been a sister named Mary.  Mary may have been married to an Eli
Oras (Oraz?), a Hungarian who served in the French army.  Eli & Mary may have lived in Marsailles, France, and there was some correspondence between families (now lost.)
Immigration: Traveled on S.S. President Grant from Hamburg on September 20, 1913 arriving Ellis Island October 1, 1913.  Maria Szabo was listed as age 42 (married housewife) and Janos was listed as age 16 (single farm laborer).  Both were shown as Hungarian Magyar, with a hometown of Biharcsunalos.  They traveled with Fadyer Bajdik, age 43, a laborer of Hungarian/Romanian descent, from Fekete-Tót.  Maria and Janos’ final destination was Cleveland, OH where they were to stay with their cousin, Jozsef Rotus* (sp?) who lived at 1697 Fulton Rd.  (Fadyer’s destination was Sharon, PA.) Listed as closest living relative in Hungary was Pal (Paul) Szabo (son of Maria, brother of Janos) of Fekete-Tót.

Naturalization: June 10, 1926, Cleveland, OH (Cert. #2289043, Vol. 87, Nbr. 21673).  John’s physical description is listed as: male age 28, 5’ 7” tall, brown hair & eyes; “white” (Caucasian), with fair complexion.  Two minor children resided with him:  John, nine years old, and Julius, 6 years old.  The residence address was 9002 Fuller Avenue in Cleveland. John “previous to his naturalization was a citizen/subject of Hungary.”

I welcome inquiries if anyone believes we have family in common! Thank you.
