I am ABC. My father's last name in Mandarin should have been spelled Hsiang, when he arrived in the US in 1939, like our relatives who sponsored his emigration.  My relatives who live in China spell our surname Xiang, using pinyin. My father's dialect pronunciation of our last name in Zhejiang Province was "ong" or "on".  While in Europe, when my father asked a French man to help him romanize and spell his surname,  he ended up with "Onne".

I am guessing that Hsiang, Xiang and Xiong may have some connection.  This surname, by its Chinese character is an unusually rare surname. So, I hope I'm contacting a relative. Please let me know if anything I've offered is relevant to your project. I'm willing to get my DNA tested.

Hi, Steven.  I am forwarding your posting to Terry, so that he can see the variations of your name you mentioned.  If you decide to get DNA tested, go to the website and follow the instructions there.  Good luck with your research.
