I am a direct descendant of Samuel Emerson, born 8 Oct 1759 in ENGLAND and died 18 Feb 1845 in Anderson County, South Carolina.
While some researchers have attempted to connect him to James "The Regulator" Emerson of North Carolina, I feel this is incorrect.

My research is based on the Cemetery Monument in the Ebeneezer Cemetery of Anderson and the Bible record of his eldest son, James Emerson.   There has never been any family tradition that this Samuel Emerson was a Revolutionary War soldier or that he was born in North Carolina. In fact some family descendent's contend that he arrived in Charleston on the same ship as his future wife, Elizabeth McAlister, most likely after 1781.

I am hopeful that the Y-DNA test will either prove or finally disprove this assertion.  I would like to hear from anyone that has evidence for either claim.
