Caldwell ancient Scottish name that was first used by the Strathclyde-Britons of the Scottish/English Borderlands.Possibly derived from the Old English words "caeld," which means "cold," and "welle," which means "well,". 2. Irish origin from the name "Horish" and "Horisky" Anglicised form of O hUarghuis, or O hUairisce of Co. Tyrone & Co. Down , Ireland. 3.The MacAulay/MacAwley is a surname of Irish and Scottish origin, meaning son of Amhlaigh. 4.Gaelic Mac Amhlaoibh or Mac Amhlaidh, meaning "son of Olaf". These Gaelic names derive from the Old Norse personal names .
