My last known Castleman ancestor was Anderson A Castleman born circa 1823 in MO. He was in 1850 US Census for Johnson Co, MO at age 27. He died shortly after his marriage in 1851 leaving his son James Blandford Castleman.

I have search Castleman familys many years looking for his father. I recently had a DNA test to help find the father of AA Castleman. Imagine my shock when it came back I was a CROW by blood.

In searching the Missouri Territory it looks like my best bet is Henry Crow, b1766 PA who was in MO by 1808. Henry died in 1828 and left a widow with several young children. The 1830 US Census says she still had two very young boys in her household. Normally widows were forced to bind out young children if the family did not take them.

The 1817 Teritorrial Census for MO finds John Castleman in the Upper Cuivre Twp seven entries from  Lewis Crow. The Upper Cuivre is not far from St Charles Parish , where Henry Crow lived.
Has any Castleman heard of a Crow family connection?

If you haven't already done so, I recommend posting your family tree on our pedigree forum.  All pedigrees posted on that page will be transfered to the official surname project website, so that other researchers may find you and contact you.  There are directions on what to do at that page:

If you want to see the pedigrees and results of other researchers, please go to the official project website.  You may find other researchers already working on the same family lines that you are:
This project is not currently supported by  If you want to request a project website, please email

Also, here is a direct link if you want to go ahead and order a DNA test.  Keep in mind that even folks that are not direct paternal/maternal decendants of this line can still get tested.  To do so, find a relative who IS a direct decendant and sponsor their test for them.  We provide comparison for test results on our project websites, and you can use FamilyTreeDNA or Y-search to do a global comparison match (over 1/2 million DNA tests for genealogy have been conducted so far):

And, if you want more information, there is a lot at the website.  I recommend starting at our Frequently Asked Questions page:
