Good afternoon.
Am I correct in thinking DNA can only be traced/identified through the male?
I am amused by the prospect of the evidence being attenuated over the generations, and only the vaguest ghost of belonging remaining in the veins of our sons and grandsons.

Males only can provide the Y-DNA for paternal line testing. (tracing family name based on male ancestors)

Females provide mtDNA for maternal line testing. (tracing female line, mother of, mother of, etc.)
