My son: Tom Earle, b.09/09/1996, Enfield, Middlesex, England
Myself: Michael Maurice Earle, b.22/06/1952, Seend, Wiltshire, England
My father: Maurice William Earle, b.02/04/1922, Seend, Wiltshire, England

The Seend Earle's go back at least 300 years in the village (headstones in the church, and local records). The Earle name arrrived in Wiltshire c500 years ago from the neighbouring shire of Somerset, and spread across the county to other centres at Bromham and Escott.

Spelling variations include Erlegh, Earley, Erely and Erle. What seems to be the earliest reference is to a John de Erlegh, a Norman night who in 1161 bought land from King Henry II at Beckington in Somerset, about twelve miles from Seend village. The d?Erlegh family owned several other estates and manor houses in Somerset, principally at Durston, Somerton Erlegh, Athelney and North Petherton. Significantly, the modern A361 trunk road links Seend, Beckington and Durston, and Seend is also on the way to Sonning near Reading in Berkshire, where the family owned the manors of Erley Regis, Maiden Erley and Erley Whiteknights. From the late 15th Century the Earle?s were a major landowner and one of the wealthiest families in the parish of Holt, a mere 5 miles distant from Seend just across the other side of the Avon in the direction of Somerset. From Beckington and Holt the family name spread east and north across the county, including a major branch residing in Chilcompton and Escott in northern Wiltshire. My grandfather Maurice Stafford Earle (d. 1961) had relatives in Chilcompton, reputedly coal miners.

Best Wishes for the project. I will definitely be involved when I can devote some time.

Hi, Michael and Earl.  If you have dates prior to 1910 to go with your pedigrees, I'll be happy to post them on the Patriarch page.  Good luck with your research.

Glenn Earls b. 1961 in Idaho m. Cynthia Griffin
John Leland Earls b. 1923 in Wyoming m. Pauline Steele
Gordon Leland Earls b. 1893 in Corinth NY d. 1994 m. Coral Gail Powers
James Henry Earls b. 1874 in Corinth NY d. 1960 m. Dora Jennie Reynolds
Elijah Earls Jr. b. 1848 in Corinth NY d. 1925 m. Sarah Jane Woodcock
Elijah Earls b. 1823 in (Wells) Fulton Co. NY d. 1906 m. Marinda Craig
      Nicholas Earls b 1799 in NY d. 1845 m. Sally Earley

Nicholas' father may be a John Earls b. 1759 m. Hannah unknown who resided in Halfmoon/Cliffton Park NY (Albany area) from 1790 census to his death in 1847. I am unable to connect Nicholas and John Earls conclusively as father and son and also unable to connect John Earls with any of the Earl/Earll/Earle families in neighboring states. John Earls is the right age to have fought in the Revolutionary War, and may have come to the Albany NY area to fight and then stayed and did not return to where he was originally from.
