Hello! I'm new to this, so be patient please!
I am Lois Harford, nee Greenberg, born 1950 in New York City.
My father is Alfred Greenberg, born 1924 in Bronx, NY. He has 2 sisters, Frieda and Lillian.
My grandfather was Joseph (?Yussel) Greenberg (possibly Grinberg or Grunberg originally), born in 1903 in Braila, Romania. He was one of 16 children, including Sarah (NY), Goldie (NY), Abraham (Israel) and Solomon (Israel). He came to NY in 1920, married Yetta Smulewizc.
His father was Moishe/Morris/Moritz/Moses Greenberg (possibly Grunberg or Grinberg). He was born in Braila, Romania. He owned a bakery, a farm, and another store - ?dry goods?.
His father's name I do not know. He was born in New York, and moved to Romania in 1850, when Austria was trying to get Jews to go back and farm in Romania, and he was given land. Before him, the Greenbergs are said to have been in New York since before the American Revolution, and had been in Brazil before that, since before 1600, according to oral family legend. It is said that there is an ancient headstone in Yiddish of our ancestor, in Queens, NY, dated 1704. I've not seen it, but my father saw it as a child.
