My gr-gr-gr grandfather is John Dee Maddox, 1807, Ga and Tuscaloosa Al. His father is Mark Maddox, 1775 (? Va or MD) according to wills, census records and family stories. Now, I'm new to y-DNA interpretation but on I match (almost exact - 18th position is incremented by 1- all other for y-67 match) to Mark Maddox 1775. That also matches me those claiming Henely Maddox, 1761 , Richard Maddox 1781,  Henry Maddox (?), Bennet Maddox 1771 and Thomas Milton Maddox 1881 SC, on (kit id# 672719 = me,  under Haplogroup R1b - Lineage IV).

Anyway, I'm hoping you or someone might be able to shed some light on what might be the connection between these matches or point me in the right direction. Also, I have matches in genetic distance of 5 to Thomas Nichols and Daniel Ogden which are names no one with knowledge of our family history recognize.

My email is

- Steve Maddox
