As one of the Administrators for the Looney Y-DNA Project I'm wondering how well this message forum works for all of us, participants and guests to the project.  To date I do not see a lot of communications taking place within this message forum. The most I see is the posting of several individuals partiarch, a topic that extends within one topic heading over a number of years.

This Looney Y-DNA Project was started in order to help individuals in discovering their family ties to Robert and Elizabeth Looney of Botetourt Co, VA and to their Isle of Man family ties.  We now not only have sufficient data to prove our ties to the Isle of Man and to Robert and Elizabeth Looney, we also have enough data to start figuring out which Looney son individual test subjects may descend from.  We still need more Looney male test subjects to take the Y-DNA test and we need more Y-DNA markers tested.

12 and 25 Y-DNA markers can establish the fact that a test subject shares a close Looney family relationship with others within the project, but it really takes more markers to be useful for analysis.  37 markers is OK, 67 markers is better, but it really takes 111 markers to do a real analysis of the data where we can see not only which family line someone falls within, but possibly start seeing shifts in the markers where we can see which generation a marker shift occurred in.

In addition to looking at the Y-DNA markers, we also need more information (communications) on Looney family connections.  There are enough participants within this Looney Project who have researched Looney family ties, anyone with a question concerning who they may descend from in the Looney family should be able to give you an answer or at least point you towards a solution.

Hopefully this message forum will become more active and useful in doing Looney family research.  If you know a male who carries the Looney surname, please encourage them to take the Y-DNA test and to have the most DNA markers tested that they can.  We definitely need more test subjects for all the Looney family lines and we need more DNA markers tested.  Please encourage other Looney family researchers to join this project and message forum and to find Looney male brothers, uncles, grandfathers, g-grandfathers and male Looney cousins to take the Y-DNA test.  If anyone is concerned about having their name associated with their Y-DNA results, have the test submitted anonymously through you with only a reference to the test subject's father (if deceased), grandfather or Looney cousin.
