Hi all, I have been trying to solve the mystery of who my gr. x3 grandfather. Documentary evidence indicates that he was a Gaines - specifically Richard Thomas Gaines (b.1776, VA - d.1856, CA) who also went by the name James Gaines (while living in Louisiana and Texas). I have compared dna with some Gaines family members - descendants of his brothers - and there is a connection between us. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find any direct descendants of his to compare with.  If any of you are or know direct descendants of Richard Thomas Gaines (James Gaines), I'd love to be in touch and compare dna!
Thanks,
Elizabeth
