Our collective Holbert patriarchs were siblings, all children of Lourana Jane Holbert 1830-abt 1882 Jefferson County, Tennessee.  We are trying to get a dna sample from each of the four sons by way of their descendants to prove or disprove that they had a common father, and that father was or was not a HOLBERT surname (as is indicated in Margaret Holbert Stinnett's death record.  She was the only child of Lourana Jane Holbert to die with named parents on her death certificate, and she or at least her husband (John Stinnett) claimed that her parents were Eli Holbert & Betsy Hill.   An interesting note to this is that there WAS an Eli Holbert married to Betsy Hill, son of Stephen Holbert, of age to be the father of Margaret Holbert who married John Stinnett in Dandridge, TN.  The family of his father, Stephen Holbert did live around Knoxville, and probably had dealings with early Dandridge, Jefferson co., TN.  In fact, before our Lucinda Holbert, Sarah Holbert, Irving D. Holbert, and Jane Holbert were recorded in Jefferson County, TN there was a Jane Holbert who bought land there in 1835, and a Lucinda Holbert who married in 1837 there to William Webb.
So we have to wonder, is it possible that the Margaret Holbert or others listed in the census' of Jane Holbert at Jefferson County, TN were not children of Jane, but that she was keeping?  Why is Margaret Holbert listed in the 1860 census with Jane at Jefferson county, TN but not in 1870 census, only to marry later there to John Stinnett?
When we test Thomas Randall "Randy" Holbert of Knoxville we will have more answers to these questions.  Randy Holbert is a proven descendant of Lucinda Holbert and husband of Jefferson county, TN thru her son, Irvin D. Holbert born 1824 who married in 1839 to Rachel Reneau there.  If Randy's dna matches the dna of Vernon Holbert, kit #171210, who descends from Rutherford NC  John Holbert/Sarah Steel, then we'll know that our Lucinda truly is the Joseph Holbert/Lucinda Ellison line that married in 1812 .... but if he doesn't match, we'll know that our Lucinda Holbert must have been married to another Holbert and from a different direction we'll be led.
