This brief line of William 1 Drew of Oyster River is posted here with hope that one or more male descendants of any of William's sons or grandsons will submit a yDNA test so this Drew line will be available for comparison with other Drew families.

William 1 Drew born about 1623, possibly at Devonshire, England. Arrived by 1648 based on tax rating at Oyster River, NH.  His birth location is suggested by a deposition of his presumed brother, Thomas Drew, and William’s wife Elizabeth Matthews’ birth at Ottery, Devonshire on 17 Dec. 1628.  The descendants of William of Dover are fairly well documented through at least the first 2-3 generations.

William and Elizabeth (Matthews) Drew were married about 1648 at Oyster River.
   Their children were:
Francis 2 [m. Lydia Bickford]
Elizabeth [m. 1st Abraham Clark, 2nd Thomas Phillips]

James [no further information]
Hannah [m. 1st Godfrey Brooking, 2nd Nicholas Follett, 3rd Abraham Haseltine]
Thomas 2 m. Mary Bunker.
When William Drew died in April 1669, Elizabeth Matthews married 2nd William Follett. They had no children.

Francis 2 Drew was born about 1648/9. After he married Lydia Bickford, they lived at Drew's point on the South side of Oyster River. Francis and his son Benjamin were killed by Indians in 1694, and his wife Lydia and her son Thomas were captured, and later released. This event and Francis' estate is well documented.
        Their surviving children were:
Thomas b. abt 1672 [m. Tamsen (_)]
Mary b. 1678 [m. Samuel Green of Stratham]
John b. 1682 [m. Sarah Evans. both killed by Indians on 26 Apr. 1706. Their two daughters Mary and Joanna survived and married.]

John 2 Drew was born about 1651, he died 27 Oct 1723, his detailed will is in NH probate records. He is identified as Sargent John Drew in many records.

   Their children were:
Sarah b. abt 1677 [m. John Field]
Elizabeth b. abt 1678 d. before 1690
John b. abt 1680/83, d. abt 1711 [m. Elizabeth Hopley]

Hi Carol, We have connected before, but I am just confirming that our lines are connected.  My husband is a direct descendant of Sgt. John Drew and Sarah Delano Field and their son John Drew Jr. who married Elizabeth Hopley.  Their son Francis Drew who married Mary Hicks. Their son Capt. John Drew who married Tamsen Drew.  Their son Joseph Drew who married Polly Eaton.  Their son Elisha E. Drew who married Salome E. Clement.  Their son Francis M. Drew who married Minerva Beedle.  Their son Francis Marion Drew who married Martha Mae Fisher. Their son Herman Leroy Drew is my father-in-law.  (My husband's DNA confirms this lineage.)

Hello there, I am Darla Drew-Bridges. I am just beginning my journey into genealogy, and would greatly appreciate any helpful hints as to interpret this sight. I have documents of death and marriage certificates as far back as Samuel B. Drew Sr.. if i read the pedigree page correct, may i assume that the earliest documented descendant is William Drew of Oyster River, NH.? Please feel free to send me any comments to my email, or on this forum..
