I would like to announce a new project website for DNA results and testing of descendants of the Canary Islanders who came to Texas in 1731. The URL is

Project description: On March 9, 1731, fifty-six individuals from the Canary Islands comprising sixteen families arrived in what is now San Antonio, later establishing the first civil government in Texas. This is a dual geographical YDNA and mtDNA project and is open to all individuals, male or female, who are direct descendants of those original settlers, commonly referred to as "Los Isleños."

Goal: The goal of this project is to determine the genetic ancestry of those historic "Isleño" families by testing the YDNA and mtDNA of their direct descendants.

For those descendants who have already tested their DNA with Family Tree DNA or for other descendants who would like to get tested and join the project, here is the "Join Link":

Please help spread the word if you know of any descendants.
