I suspect that Robert's family is this one in 1850, Dist. 2, Grundy, TN
Samuel Carson   61 TN farmer
Elizabeth Carson 56 NC
Margaret Carson 37 TN
Polly Carson       34 TN
Ibby? Carson      30 TN
Malinda Carson   28 TN
Mahaly Carson    25 TN
Jane Carson       15 TN
Robert Carson    12 TN
John Carson        6 TN

In 1860 in Grundy, TN we find:
Samuel Carson 35 TN
Cinai Carson 28 TN
John T? Carson 6 TN
Allen Carson 3 TN
Harriett Carson 1 TN

Malinda Carson 38 TN
Mary Carson 39 TN
John Carson 16 TN

So it appears the family stayed there and there is a likely another brother, Samuel.  Robert is not there, so could be in Bradley.

Is there a guide to interpreting the DNA results?  Is it safe to assume that since my results (thanks for putting them up so soon) are the same color and grouped together with C-13, C-4, and C-2 that there is a possible relation?  Also I was curious as to why the difference in the 439 marker was not highlighted in yellow as was the other difference (385b).  Is that marker not as significant?

Allen,
That was an error and has been fixed!  Actually, that put you as not currently having a match in the group.  The red markers tend to mutate faster.  If you don't have an exact 12 marker match in the group, your relationship with the others is VERY far back, easily thousands of years.  I currently don't have a 12 marker match with anyone in the entire FamilyTreeDNA database!

Here are the current results:

This Carson line is R1b1, Western European.  It does not connect with the I2b1 lines for many thousands of years back.

At this time, there aren't any close matches and a lineage has not been assigned.

Lines that are suspected to connect should locate a living male Carson who can trace his father's father's father (and so on) back to Carson (a straight male line, no adoptions).  This person could take a yDNA test to see what connections can be made.
