Family Tree DNA has branched out with a new office in Zurich, Switzerland -- its first outside of the United States.

At the same time, the Houston-based company has launched an international version of its Web site, designed to serve a global customer base.

Family Tree DNA markets itself as "the first company to make DNA testing available for genealogical purposes."

Its technology aims to help genealogists to expand their families'' research and to fill the gap between genealogy and anthropology.

The firm recently established a genomics research center at its Houston offices in an effort to expand its testing capabilities.

Family Tree DNA has 120,000 individual entries in its DNA databases.

The European Web site offers information regarding its tests in Spanish, French, German, Italian and English.

Family Tree DNA President Bennett Greenspan said the new office will allow the company's international clients to pay for its products in their specific currency or speak to a company representative in their native language.
