Title: Bowen Family Pedigrees
Post by: bowenadmin on March 23, 2005, 02:23:05 AM
We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for this Surname.   Our Surname Project is primarily interested in your Paternal line, as surnames are passed down from father to son, just as the yDNA is passed down.

If you ARE A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, send your pedigree by email to WorldFamilies.net at mari@worldfamilies.net.  The pedigree will then be posted on the Surname Project's Patriarchs Page by Worldfamilies.net or sent to the Project’s Administrator.

Please include the following:  (If you have more information you would like to share, you may also post a more extended version of your family pedigree on the project website’s Pedigree Forum below)
•       Name of project
•       Kit Number
•       Name of person posting pedigree
•       Email address to be posted with pedigree
•       Name, birthdate, birthplace, spouse of Earliest Known Ancestor
•       List each succeeding generation, using only those four items of information (or substitute another item of information if missing an item)

If you are NOT A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, you are welcome to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum below.  We hope an interested researcher will see it and contact you to share information.

Hi, Melanie.  I posted the information you have on the Patriarch page.  Glad you are interested in being part of the DNA testing.  Yes, you can test your mitochondrial DNA, or you can have a male relative test for the Y DNA.  See the website for more details, or contact Terry at terry@bartonsite.org.  Good luck.

Seems that a lot of brick walls for Bowen can be traced to Boren , Boreing and Boring.
I have found where some of my ancestors used the name Brown for a while.

6. Charles Clayton Bowen, b & d Polk Co. AR (wife living)
7. living Bowen, the DNA donor

Isaac Bowen may have been born in Maryland.  I have no proof except a short genealogy written by a great-granddaughter, who also said that Thomas Bowen had two wives named Elizabeth Hunt, who were cousins.  Isaac's family was in Greenville County SC in 1800.  In 1802 his wife's siblings and spouses, heirs of Thomas Roy, deeded him land on the north side of Saluda River in Greenville District where Thomas Roy had lived.  This land adjoined his own land.  In exchange Isaac Bowen agreed to maintain the widow Margaret Roy.  Isaac Bowen received a lot in the Georgia land lottery of 1827.  He was head of household in 1830 Habersham Co. with 1 male 15-20, 1 male 70-80, and 1 female 60-70.  He is thought to have died soon afterward in Habersham Co. GA, in the area that later became White Co.

Hi:

I am in this project because I matched Donald Wilbur Bowen (Bourne) formerly of Warsaw, Northern Neck, Virginia   109/111 markers on the Y dna FTDNA test;

I also match Alan Townsend of Chester, PA 66/67 markers; His ancestors may have lived in the Maryland area in the 1600s - 1700s... Townsend is in the Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland and Virginia) project and the British Quakers project.

AND I match 37/37 markers with Joe Mozingo a 6(?) great grandson of Spencer Mozingo who lived in the Norrthern Neck area of Virginia in the 1700s. Spencer was a neighbor of James Madison....

I notice above that there is an Isaac Bowen originally from Maryland (?) whose descendents were in Arkansas around the time my grandfather James Riley Posey was born in 1877.  The Y dna markers do not match, however...

I am at the brick wall with William Riley Posey b. about 1844 who married a Betty Hutchinson in Perry County Arkansas. Hutchinson was the mother of James Riley Posey...

There is a story in the Posey family that there were 12 orphans in the William Riley Posey family and they boarded  with Porters in Perry County, Arkansas.

Bowens in Arkansas--- Can you shed some light?  Can you help me penetrate this wall?

bye,

Steve in Oro Valley  (Steve Posey)
