Haplogroups are the first level of
groupings of mankind (you can think of them as branches on
the Family Tree of Man) based on the yDNA used in genetic
genealogy. A man's Haplogroup is often
estimated, based on the markers evaluated in his yDNA test.
To be certain of the Haplogroup, a SNP (pronounced "snip")
test must be done.
There is a large and ever growing body
of literature on Haplogroups. General Y-Haplogroup
resource information is found at the bottom of this page.
This table provides links to the Y-Haplogroup projects at
FTDNA and to information specific to Y-Haplogroups.
General Y-Haplogroup resource
information is provided in this table. Haplogroup
information which applies to both Y-Haplogroup and
mt-Haplogroup is
available at our Reference Page.
