Using Your "myFTDNA" Page


How can I change my email address or my password on my account?
Log in at www.familytreedna.com using your kit number and the password they sent you when your kit was returned. 
  • Click on "Manage Personal Information" in the left column under "Profile".
    • To change your email address:
      • Click "Contact Information" in the menu bar across the top of the page.
      • Change your email address information (you can provide 2 email addresses)
    • To change your password, click "Change Password" in the row of links just under the gray menu bar.
What do I do if I've forgotten my password or my kit number?
  • If you have forgotten either of these, you can click "forgot your password" under the log-in box. or you can contact Family Tree DNA directly and they will help you log in.  Call (713) 868-1438 or email helpdesk@familytreedna.com
How can I find out when my results will be ready?
  • Log in at www.familytreedna.com using your kit number and the password they sent you when your kit was returned.
  • Click on "Complete Order History" under "Order History" in the left sidebar to see all information about your orders.  Click on "Check the status of pending tests" near the top of the page to see the  expected completion date.

I bought the kit for someone else.  How can I make sure I get all the information about the kit and the results?
Make sure your email address is included in the contact information for the kit when you send it back to FTDNA.  (If the kit has already been returned, then get the password from the person who took the test so that you can access the personal page at FTDNA.)   Then log in at www.familytreedna.com using the kit number and the password they sent when your kit was returned.
  • Click on "Manage Personal Information" in the left column under "Profile".
  • To add your email address:
    • Click "Contact Information" in the menu bar across the top of the page.
    • Change your email address information (you can provide 2 email addresses)
    • The email in the first blank is considered the primary email address.
 
I don't like getting the emails that my project admin sends out.  Can I get off his email list without leaving the project?
Log in at www.familytreedna.com using the kit number and the password they sent when your kit was returned. 
  • Click on "Manage Personal Information" in the left column under "Profile".
  • Click "Project Administrator Settings" in the drop-down menu.
  • On the next page, click "Match and Email Settings"
  • Scroll down to "Project email settings" and click the circle "no" next to "Subscribe to 'bulk' e-mails sent by my project administrators"
I don't want to get an email from FTDNA every time I have a match.  What can I do?
  • Touch your curser to "My Account" in the dark blue menu bar across the top of your personal page at FTDNA.
  • Click "Match and email Settings" in row of links just under the gray menu bar near the top of the page.
  • On the next page, click "Match and Email Settings"
  • Scroll down to "Y-DNA Matches and E-mail Notifications" and make your selections about which emails about matches you would like to receive.

Why do I need to name a "beneficiary" for my DNA test kit?

FTDNA retains your sample for 25 years or longer.  New tests or new information that might be valuable to your heirs will only be available if you authorize a beneficiary.  When you pass away, the beneficiary will gain complete control of the kit and will be authorized to order additional tests with any DNA that may remain in stock. 
To provide information about your designated benificiary:
  • Click on "Manage Personal Information" in the left column under "Profile".
  • Click "Beneficiary Information" in the menu bar across the top of the page.
  • Provide the information requested.
How can I control how much access the Project Administrator has to my information?
Log in at www.familytreedna.com using the kit number and the password they sent when your kit was returned. 
  • Click on "Manage Personal Information" in the left column under "Profile".
  • Click "Prrivacy and Sharing" in the row of links below the menu bar near the top of the page.
  • Make your selections about how much access the Project Administrator will have to your information and settings. 
Why can't I log in to WorldFamilies.net with my kit number and FTDNA password? 
There may be some confusion about the Family Tree DNA website, and the Project website that is located at World Families.  These are two separate websites that have information about your DNA testing for genealogy and your surname project. 
  • Your PERSONAL PAGE (myFTDNA page) is located at Family Tree DNA (www.familytreedna.com)  When you log in at www.familytreedna.com, you will need to use your kit number and the password they sent you when your kit was returned.

  • The PROJECT WEBSITE is hosted at World Families Network (www.worldfamilies.net)  You do not need to be registered or logged in to view any page on the website.  You only need to log in to post on the forum or to click the Track Project button at the project website
    • If you want to log in at www.worldfamilies.net, in order to post on the forum, click on "Create new account" just under the log in box.  You will be able to choose your own user name and password (please make a note of them).  If you have registered at Worldfamilies Forum in the past but can't remember your user name or password, click on  "Request new password" just under the log in box.
Where can I find information about using my FTDNA Personal Page?
Log in at www.familytreedna.com to go to your "myFTDNA" page. 
  • Click on "Learning Center" under "Resources" near the top of the page. You will find answers to many of your questions there.
  • Click on "Learn More" in the lower right-hand corner of the box for each test you have taken on your myFTDNA page.
