The Starr Stoehr Stair Family DNA Project has continued to grow and now includes 42 participants including 41 who are direct male Starr descendants.

We now have the haplotype of the Pennsylvania Irish Starrs (John Starr Family, born about 1650 in England or Ireland) established at 37 markers except for variation at CDY-b (38 or 39). Eight participants belong to this group. One participant matches at 24 of 25 markers, one at 36 of 37 markers, and two participants match at 35 of 37 markers. An eighth participant with only 12 markers tested has also been tentatively assigned to this group. Four members have so far had 67-marker tests and we now see a variation at marker 444. We are beginning to see enough variation in this group that future participants may allow a break down into identifiable subgroups.

With 5 members the ancestral haplotype of the Casper Stoehr family (German Starrs) is also defined at 37 markers.

The Daniel Starr Family is defined by 4 exact matches at 67 markers. One individual with 36 markers matches this group exactly, a second individual differs from the family haplotype at 1 marker, and a third individual differs at 2 markers. Thus we are beginning to see some subgrouping within this family. One individual with only 12 markers tested and a mismatch at 1 marker has also been tentatively assigned to the Daniel Starr Family.

The Henry Starr Family (born 1752 in Maryland), now has 10 members, although 1 member with 3 mismatches out of 37 markers is somewhat suspect. In this group the values for DYS 391 are fairly evenly split between 11 and 12 repeats. Since these individuals trace their ancestry to Henry Starr born about 1752 in Maryland, it is clear that a mutation has occurred for DYS 391 since that time.

The group representing descendants of Comfort Starr, has only a single member, but because this is a large, well researched Starr family it merits a separate lineage. Hopefully other members of this line will come forth to add weight to the DNA foundation of this Starr family.

The Group John Starr b.c. 1800 now has 2 members who match at 36 of 37 markers tested.

The group labeled Other contains 6 members who have yet to find matches to their DNA.

The group labeled Miscellaneous with one participant includes Starr descendants who do not have a direct male line to follow.
