Introduction

Goals

Our Project

Surname DNA testing is the newest tool available to genealogists. These tests help genealogists verify their paternal ancestry (father's father) in a quick and easy way.  It saves time, prevents mistakes, and provides invaluable data that can be obtained in no other way.

To Help researchers on common or related families work together to find their common heritage (see the Patriarch Page).

To identify the DNA of the ancestor families and compile them and their lost branches into distinct genetic lineages through DNA matches.

The Next Step – Joining the Sheets DNA Project

Sheets Web Links

The Sheets DNA Project website has six pages.  Feel free to explore them, by clicking on the boxes at the top of this page.   For pricing information, click on the Order page.   We offer discounted prices from time to time, so if you are having trouble justifying or affording the cost, please email me (Paul Sheats) at the address listed at the bottom of this page.  Discounts, when they are offered, are on the 25 or 37 marker tests only.  I recommend the 37 market test, but you can always upgrade at a later date if you wish.

The process is simple.  Everything is done by mail, and no needles are involved.  After joining, you will be mailed a DNA collection kit within a few days.  The kit contains three cheek swab samples.  Follow the directions carefully, and mail your kit back along with the signed consent form.  Your results will come back in about 6 to 8 weeks and be posted to the results page.

When you are ready to join the project, click here to order a DNA test.  Fill out the information on the page.  For the type of test, select YDNA-25 or YDNA-37.  Press the “continue” button at the bottom of the page, and follow the instructions from there.

We ask that all members submit a pedigree to be posted on the “Patriarch” page at the project.  In addition, we will post the researcher’s name and email address on the Patriarch page, so that in case of a match, others in the project can contact you.  The researcher can be a different person than the person tested.

This project is to identify and collect GEDCOM and other information on all of the Sheets lines (any spelling variation) in North America.  In phase 1, we are focusing on pre-1850 information.  Our plan is to organize and centralize the information in the Rootsweb World Connect database.  Our current home for the lineages is in PhpGedView software, which will allow members of the project to do collaborative maintenance as we find out new information and sources for the various lines.  Feel free to visit our PhpGedView site to view the lines we have posted so far.  If you have any corrections or additions with source information, please email me (Paul) at the address listed at the bottom of this page.

Also a summary of the lines we’ve identified so far can be found on our Help page of this site.
