We will list all Lines by Earliest Assumed Ancestor. We hope that eventually all families or lines participating in the Marsalis and variants DNA project will be listed on this page.
Participation in the DNA Project is not a requirement for listing on this page, but we will indicate families who have a male representing them in the DNA Project. If you are a Marsalis or variant through a maternal line we welcome your lineage posting at the Pedigree Forum and we will transfer the tree here.
The first common ancestor has been confirmed and verified by paper trail. In the Lineage 1 listings:
Peter H. Marsalis, husband of Mary Magdalene Gordon is the common ancestor.
Our Marsalis family began in the U. S. on May 9, 1661 with the arrival into New Amsterdam (New York) of the ship DE BEVER
Passenger list : "Pieter Marselis, from Beesd, with wife, 4 children, 13, 6, 4, and 2 years old and 2 servants" --Holland Year Book 1902
According to the Holland Society Yearbook 1915 Pieter settled at Bergen, N.J. and died there with his burial recorded in the Bergen Dutch Church on September 4, 1682.
