The Lumsden DNA Project is collecting and studying DNA data on Lumsden, Lumisden and Lumsdaine. The purpose of these tests is to distinguish the relationships between the various lines in the USA, Canada, Australia and Scotland. Most of us realize we have gone as far as possible with traditional methods of research (courthouse records, Bible records, etc.). We have lots of theories about how our lines mesh, but we don’t have any proof positive. DNA testing can help solve that problem and could put us on the right track, showing us which lines are related and which are not. All information will be kept strictly confidential unless written permission is received by the project administrator, which in our case is Texas State Covenor Candace Campise.
The Patriarchs we will start with will be:
- John and Wilmoth (Steele) Lumsden of Virginia
- George Lumsden and wife of Virginia
- John and Elizabeth Lumsden of Virginia and North Carolina Alexander and Marion Lumsden of Canada
- Thomas and Elizabeth (Wilson) Lumsden of Canada William Lumsden and wife of Canada
We will be glad to add others as soon as we are informed. Obviously, we will need the support of those Lumsden family male members of the Patriarchs of Scotland.
Our group is looking for DNA sampling from any Lumsden (all spellings) male, in a direct line of documented descent. These are the surname spellings that we encourage to participate in our project:
Lumsden, Lumisden, Lumsdaine
See our Recruitment Page for details on joining our project.
See our Miscellaneous Page for details on contributing to the "General Fund."
