Note by Mike Terry: Based on the research of Wylene Alston, the marriage date of Daniel and Elizabeth, her maiden name and death date for Daniel Hefner derive from pension papers filed by Elizabeth Mackey after Daniels' death for his War of 1812 service from the state of North Carolina. This Daniel is sometimes mistaken for a Daniel Heffner from Berks Co PA who also served in a Pennsylvania unit in the War of 1812. They were in fact genetically related as the DNA results would indicate; however, these two men are entirely different individuals.

Note by Mike Terry: William W. Heftner and Francis E. Heftner m George W. Terry above were brother and sister. The line of Robert "Mike" Terry. Based on traditional documentation, this line belongs in Lineage Group 1. Recent DNA results indicate this is true and on H-6, H-8 and H-10 below there is a 67/67 perfect match indicating  a very close relationship between the Buncombe Co NC Hefner families and the Berks Co PA family of John George Haefner.

Note by Mike Terry: It is believed Polycarp L. Hefner is the Paul Leander Heffner in the 1850 and Paul L. Haffner in the 1860 Catawba Co NC census with Hiram Haffner. In the 1870 census he is Polycarp Hefner and in the 1880 census he is Poley L. Hefner. Oscar indicates the "L." in Polycarp L. Hefner stands for "LEANDER". Polycarp/Paul Leander/Paul L. Haffner consistently have birth dates about 1848. Pleast note parents' marriage date.

            Note from Roger Orndorff: Nicholas Haefner/Heffner/Hevener, etc., immigrated from Koblenz , Rheinland-Pfalz Palatinate to the Port of Philadelphia arriving on the ship “Davy” on 25 Oct 1738.  This Nicholas Hevener lived in the Tulpehocken region of Berks Co., PA for about 15 years and then migrated about 1755 to the South Fork Valley of present day Pendleton Co., WV near the present day village of Brandywine .
