PATERNAL LINES

Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein, Ger/ NYC-1 (New York City Line-1) - Kit #82965 (DNA Line I-1)

The lines from Koln, Mannheim, Dehrn, Darmstadt, Frankfort, and surrounding areas are suspected as potentially being connected to this line.

Census records show a Julia Kerr who is shown as having a niece named MAE ERBECK who is the sister to William Eugene Erbeck living with her at the same location. On one of these census records a John Moriarity is living with them, he is known to be a cousin by way of the marriage of Catherine Adams nee Erbeck.

Richard W Erbeck was living at the same location until about 1890. The estate of Julia A Kerr lists as beneficiaries a MAE ERBECK at this same address as shown in census records as well as Richard J Erbeck the known Brother to William Eugene Erbeck.

DNA results have eliminated the possible KERR connection in the PA-1 (Pennsylvania Line) which has a descendent with middle name of KERR living in New York City in the later years as the PA-1 line is documented as being related to the OH-1 (Ohio) Line which is in a different Haplogroup.

William Eugene Erbeck's suspected first wife is buried at Prospect Hill in Washington DC; info provided by someone who has records for that cemetery provided the following info.

  • Erbeck, Louise, 36 years; born in Maryland in 5-1882; died in Washington Asylum Hospital, DC, 4-26-1919; cause of death nephritis; buried 4-28-1919; Benedict Walz, lot owner; D-195-32; Frank Geier's Sons, undertaker. Appears to be Louisa Walz, wife of Benedict Walz. Occupation domestic. Home at time of death was at 1233 5th Street, NW, DC.

She is found in 1900 Census DC with her first husband Benedict Walz with her mother. Based on the burial date it appears that William Eugene Erbeck had to wait for his first wife to pass before he could remarry. He re-married about 1920. It is known he had a wife before Lillian Pernetta Tomlin, as his son found family records of this when he was child and got into trouble for it. His daughter says her father told her that his first wife drank and almost destroyed his military career.

We can probably safely assume this is the reason for her commitment to St. Elizabeth's and the date of death and his second marriage appears to indicate this is his first wife. Her short obituary in the newspaper states she is the wife of Eugene William Erbeck, it was common for the first name be used this way by European circles, as it appears the obituary info was probably provided by the family that owned the plot where she is buried, and the cemetery was primarily German descendants at the time.

·        Louise Erbeck (nee Ebert) beloved wife of Eugene W Erbeck. (All the other info in the obit matches the burial info provided).

Ricard W Erbeck cannot be located in Birth records, it is assumed his was an unreported birth. He is found in 1870 census with his grand parents Nicolas Erbach and Anna Catherine Dittmar as well as with a sibling Anna. The Census record also lists thier place of origin as Koblenz. Richard W Erbeck is the 3rd child or Wilhelm Erbach and Catherine Schaller. William Erbach is found in an June 1852 NYC Immigrant bank record which states they arrived on the Leila in June 1850 and gives his parents names, and states two children, one in germany and one 10 months old.  3 months later his parents arrive with the daughter still in germany. William never appears in the city directory, however Nicolas does until he dies about 1865 where his wife is listed as his widow, however she disappears from the city directory in 1868 the same year deposits to the immigrant bank account stopped, the funds where never claimed, the grandchildren probably never knew they existed

Nicholas Erbach is found in a 1822 catholic church marriage record for St. Kastor, Koblenz, Germany with his wife. She was a protestant from Obersteten district of Bad Homburg Van Der Hohe, according to the marriage record. The 1823 St.Kaston, Koblenz, Germany baptismal record for  Wilhelm Erbach states the were residing in Bad Homburg Van Der Hohe.

Adam Erbach is shown in a birth record for Anna Maria Christina Josepha Erbach, as the father, the record also lists the his wife, and the other children as of that date.

Two other ERBACH records were found in St. Kastor, Koblenz, Germany, see PA-2b line below.

This line is suspected as having pre-viking goth history involving the goth for a time were involved with the roman military shortly after the time of Christ, involving Goths that settled along the lower Rhein River. Autosomal DNA testing on kit #82965 revealed high perentages of Norweigian and Italian Admixture which subjectively might corrolate with this known history involing the goths.

Koblenz, Germany/ PA-2a  (Lackawanna PA line )

This is suspected as being related to the NYC-1 (I-1) DNA line because they also come from KOBLENZ.

Koblenz, Germany/ PA-2b  (Lackawanna PA line )

This is suspected as being related to the NYC-1 (I-1) DNA line because they also come from KOBLENZ.

PA-2a Lackawanna/Scranton, PA/Koblenz, Ger Line
IS THIS LINE RELATED TO THE NYC-1/ENHRENBREITSTEIN, GERMANY LINE?

This family shows up in 1870 Census. Valentine Erback is also shown in records to be a Civil War Soldier, a full copy of his pension file is in the possession of Michelle Erbeck this studies Administrator. Valentine and Mary Elizabeth Erbeck are both buried at the Hyde Park/Washburn/Welsh Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The 1900 Census has Valentine Listed as not naturalized, and having come to the United States in 1846. In the 1900 he is listed with Emeline Edwards who is show as a cousin who was born in New Jersey, the family listed above also has the Edwards surname. Emeline Edwards is also shown in supporting documents to his pension application indicating she has known him over 30 years.

His Civil Pension records provide his birth date and his wife's maiden name as well as a physical description indicating he had light hair. He married her April 28, 1861 in Hopedale, Wayne County, Pennsylvania, by a Moravian clergy and divorced her February 10 1894, they had 5 girls and 2 boys, a civil war pension document shows Albert as the only male child living in 1898 and had not previously married.

Albert is later found in WWI draft registration records in Camden New Jersey. Unlike his father Albert's hair is shown as brown. He moved to Mount Olive, Morris County, New Jersey by 1900 where census records shows he was newly married. Albert appeared to have one son named Grant, and one daughter named Alberta.

An entry in the ancestry user forms states Valentine was from Koblenz, Germany, however no records were found for him in catholic baptism or marriage records for ST. KASTOR, KOBLENZ, or EHRENBREITSTEIN, only marriage and baptism records were check, there are considerable more records to be checked.

Heinrich Friedrich Erbeck was a soldier for the Kingdom of Hannover who had two wives. Carl Wilhelm had five children, two boys and three girls in Alton.  One of the girls married a Parker, one of the boys died when an early teen, and the other boy was Fredrick Albert.  There is one possible unknown male, another boy born to Heinrich Frederick. The Information presented here was developed from information provided by a descendant of this line who is a participant in this study.

A column has been added with suggested LDS Microfilm Numbers for decendants of this line to check for original records, please forward copies of original records the Admin of this study so they archived so that eventually a CD may be made available to future researchers of the original records. In time the LDS film info will be replaced with useful info on the original record.

It is recommended that the entire FHL series of "Sealings for the dead, couples and children", be checked for records of ancestors of this line as the web information  may not reflect detailed info that may exist on the original images.

Heinrich Albert Erbeck according to a passport application on Sept 14, 1911 he emigrated on Feb 17 1882 aboard the Lessing, the application also gives place of birth. A clue to the Anna Ewing connection exists in the 1900 census which shows father as having been born in scotland, however I belive this is an error by census taker who apparently wrote down anything he heard as language was likely a problem. This family is shown on Livingston Street near East 95th Street, NYC in 1900 census.

Information presented here was developed from a document provided by a maternal descendant from this line. Albert Erbeck had 2 daughters and no sons.

PA-4 St. Johann, Sprendlingen, Ger/PA Line - Kit # N63315 (DNA Line I-3)

This line for now is known as the St. Johann, Sprendlingen line because of the location information referred to relating to Balthes Erbach.

In the book "Pennsylvania German Pioneers", v1, Lorentz Erbach is listed as having coming to America on the ship "Phoenix" from "Rotterdam & last from Crowes." The date for this is October 20th, 1744.

Balthes Erbach is listed as having coming to America on the ship "Edinburgh" from "Rotterdam but last from Portsmouth." - 8 Feb 1748 Erbach/Ehrbach, Balthasar immigrated with four children St. Johann/Sprendling, Germany on the ship Edinburgh. He was naturalized on 25 Sep 1754.  St. Johann/Sprendlingen is near Frankfurt, and not far from Koblenz.  The FHL microfilms for catholic churchs in this area are under Sprendlingen/Kr. Alzey. Having worked with these records before I believe I strongly believe that the church records for this location will contain references where they are truly from. Most of the church records for germany go back to the dark ages. Reviewing these microfilms is a worthy effort for those who decend from these lines.

Friedrich Wilhelm Erbeck (William) and Christian (Christoph) show up in Campbell, County, Kentucky in a church Marriage Register for St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Information presented here was developed from a gedcom file provided by a descendant from this line who is a participant in this study.

This line has a New York Connection by way of John Kerr Erbeck who was born in Homestead, Pennsylvania and moved to White Plains, New York.

The book titled “Families of Beaver County, PA” this family is described on Page 845 with information that links it to the OH-1 line.

The head of the branch of this family line is buried at the German Lutheran Cemetery which belonged to St Peter's Church of Monaca, Beaver County, Pennsylvania. This cemetery is also known in historical records as St Peter's Church Cemetery. The early members of the church associated with this cemetery were followers of the Harmony Society of Economy and followed the leader of the Harmonist, George Rapp, from Germany to Economy, Pa. in the 1800s. After they separated from the Harmonists, they relocated to Phillipsburg (now Monaca). This may be an important fact to consider when researching this line and its earlier ancestors as well as the descendants who established a separate line in Ohio, the OH-1 line.

This PA-1 line is highlighted below in YELLOW; the common ancestor is highlighted in CYAN.

PA-3 Altoona, PA Line

This family is shown in New York Passenger lists for October 29 1931 aboard the "Europa". Wilhelm was born in Astoria, New York. 1930 Census records shows he was naturalized in 1925. A Herman W Erbeck is found in Altoona Phonebook for 1993-1995 under Herman W Erbeck, it can probably be assumed the Wilhelm below is Herman Wilhelm Erbeck. Since he does not appear in the 2000 year phonebooks we can assume he has probably died. A William A Erbeck is found in public records in Tipton, in the same county as Altoona and is likely the son of Wilhelm.
