At present only male bearing the Dewdney surname appears to have been tested and his haplogroup is R1B1B2A1A. His most distant known ancestor is George Dewdney. George was a baker living and working in Reigate during the seventeenth century. He signed the Oath of Protestation [a declaration of loyalty to Charles 1st] in 1641. He married Dorothy Wattel and died in Reigate in 1698.
There are several groupings of Dewdneys within the UK, in Sussex, Surrey, Devon and the West Country. We welcome all men bearing the Dewdney surname and encourage you to join this project in the hopes of finding the common ancestor of us all.
