Welcome to the Augustine Surname Site.
Surname DNA testing is the newest tool available to genealogists in building family trees and identifying common origins.
I am one of the co-administrators of the Augustine project. I am guessing that this surname has Greco-Roman origins, but our research should shed light on this and other theories.
My grandfather, Andrew August, immigrated from Eastern Europe and supposedly changed his name from Augustine or a variant (possibly the Polish "Augustyn" or slavic "Augustin"). However, there are variants in several languages (e.g. Italian, French, Dutch) which indicate that the surname itself may have deeper roots that go beyond a single nationality or language.
This Family Project is started to:
1. Help researchers and families related to the "Augustines" (and variants) work together to find their common heritage (See the Patriarch Page)
2. Identify the DNA of the ancestor families and compile them and their lost branches into distinct genetic lineages through DNA matches
