WorldFamilies.net provides a website to any project that operates at FTDNA at absolutely no charge when requested by the project administrator. Our project approach has evolved through over 8 years of project administration, applied to hundreds of projects, serving thousands of participants. The free site can be used as a stand-alone system, can be used in conjunction with the project pages provided by FTDNA, or can be coordinated with another site which already supports your project.
We also support admins who are beyond their capabilities (due to health, other committments or technology) and even "adopt" projects when an admin dies or retires. If we are supporting an active family admin, it means that he (or she) puts their energies into the parts of the project where they get the most impact and we provide the remaining support. In that ideal case - the net effort goes up. If we take over a project from an active admin, then the net effort may diminish, as we don't recruit or initiate contact. However, our support allows a project to continue when it would other wise stop. Ideally, another family admin soon steps up.
A partial listing of projects where we have recently stepped in to help is listed at the bottom of this page, followed by a listing of some of the project administrators we support - in varying arrangements.
A WorldFamilies Surname Project Site includes up to 10 pages: (Ex from Dunbar Project.)
- Home page can be customized with links and general project information
- Patriarchs page where the participating and targeted families are listed, along with Line Leaders and Test representative's code number (can be uploaded as an HTML file)
- yDNA Results page for marker results, grouped by "Lineage" or "Haplotype" (can be uploaded as an HTML file)
- Order page general information about ordering and a link to the FTDNA order page
- mtDNA page for posting mtDNA results and related discussion (freeform page)
- Discussion page for the Administrator's Analysis or other thoughts
- Help page if you can't figure out what to do next
- FTDNA project page the project ordering page at FTDNA (no edit privilege)
- Forum for interactive discussion, Topic Threads and Blogging (no edit privilege)
- Post Pedigree Page where researchers post their pedigrees (no edit privilege)
(The project admin will always have Pages 1,4 & 8.
Pages 2,3,5,6,7, 9 & 10 are used at the administrator's discretion)
Getting a Free WorldFamilies.net Project Site for a new project
Option 1: You can become one of the WorldFamilies.net projects, which brings our direct support to your project: sending welcome messages, posting pedigrees at the Patriarch page, posting results, etc. - until you are ready to take these duties. We help you get things running smoothly and are on call when you need - which will mean that we will have access to your Group Admin page. Terry's name can be included on the WorldFamilies.net pages - or not – that’s your choice. You'll be able to count on us if you need a second set of eyes or technical insight.
To do option 1, we need your confirmation that you would like to be included in our WorldFamilies.net system. We'll then request the project be established - and designate you (or whomever you designate) as Lead Admin.
Option 2: You are completely independent as project administrator and have the use of the project sites that we furnish. In this scenario, we ask that you and your project participants use the link that we put on the project pages to order your tests at FTDNA. (we gain a small commission on any orders that are placed through our links to FTDNA. We hope to recover our cost of providing the Free Sites through these commissions.)
Option 3: We will be happy to setup a surname project for your surname. The project will utilize the same interlocking set of sites at FTDNA, WorldFamilies.net and WFNForum.net You agree to order a surname test to kick off the project and we'll do the administration. You simply use the project for your research
The site is free to you in all cases.
You and the project participants will still have exactly the same relationship with FTDNA as if you had set up the project on your own and will pay exactly the same as you would pay if you were totally unconnected to us.
If, at any time in the future, you wish to disassociate with us - you can do that with one email - no questions asked (except "why" so we'll know a reason) We expect you to honor the requirements that we lay out in the email that that brings your edit access code.
Let us know which option you want. And - feel free to verify that our service is legitimate and endorsed by FTDNA - they actually initiated the concept for us.

Terry's name can be included on the WorldFamilies.net pages - or not – that’s your choice. You'll be able to count on us if you need a second set of eyes or technical insight.
To do option 1, we'll need two things from you:
1. Your confirmation that you would like to be included in our WorldFamilies.net system
2. The access code to your Group Admin page. We'll do three things with it: Post the link to your new WorldFamilies.net website, assign a project number to each participant (you can do the others as they are added), and make the first Results table for you. We'll then assist you as we jointly agree and otherwise make no other edits in your FTDNA pages.
