Harry Sleight, author of
Sleights of Sag Harbor, conveyed a family tradition of origins within Dutch Flanders. Can anyone corroborate this tradition? Can anyone qualify or caveat Sleight's usage of the term 'Dutch Flanders?' Did he use it interchangeably with the 'County of Holland,' as it existed before the Hook and Cod Wars and the advent of the (French) Burgundian Netherlands?
Sleightburgh offers a discussion of this
topic.
Does anyone recall a tradition of Slecht family origins preceding the Woerden homestead, perhaps outside of the Netherlands?
