Greetings to all Wheaton, Wheadon and related Families,
After making a thorough search and finding no Wheaton or Wheadon DNA Forums I'm starting one here. Please see my website Wheaton Surname Resources
https://sites.google.com/site/wheatonsurname/home
I have identified three major Wheaton lines in the US. Those descended from:
Robert Wheaton bc. 1606 (presumed to be of Devon, England) who was at Salem, MA 1636, and Rehoboth, MA by 1646. From Robert came the founders of Wheaton College. And likely but not proven Wheaton Glass. Descendants to Australia and Canada.Thomas Wheadon bc.1635 Axminster, Devon, England who settled New Haven, Connecticut 1657. Some descendants of Thomas adopted the Wheaton spelling. Actor Wil Wheaton and Wheaton Van Lines are from Thomas Wheadon.Thomas Wheaton /Wheatley bc.1700 Hilton, Huntingdonshire, England whose descendants arrived in the US in the 1800's. One branch of this family also to Australia.I would like to verify connections with proven lines on both sides of the Atlantic. It would be great to sort out the various Wheaton lines in England and find whether/how they connect.
My own interest is that I am a descendant of Robert's daughter Hannah and my husband's Wheaton line has been stuck in NY/NJ since the 1970's when I began. A visit to Jean Wheaton's website (The most comprehensive in the world for Wheaton Wheadon information
http://www.wheatonjk.co.uk) will show that there are many stuck Wheaton lines.
I am looking for Wheaton surnamed males who are willing to participate in DNA testing which may unravel the origins of the Wheaton and Wheadons more definitively. Some of you may have already been tested and I am hoping that you will be willing to share your results. I have done some preliminary looking at Wheaton DNA results on Ancestry.com, FTDNA and elsewhere and it looks like there are least two distinct lines: Wheaton and Wheadon and some other anomalies. I'm also hopeful that those with stuck lines will be able to definitively know which branch they harken from. If you are interested please contact me by posting here or requesting a kit through FTDNA Wheaton Wheadon Project.
Cheers!
Kelly
