We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for the Nance Family Project Patriarch page. (You don’t have to be a test participant to post your family pedigree.)

There are two ways to make your pedigree available to the project administrator for posting on the Patriarch Page:
1.  Send the pedigree by email directly to carrie@worldfamilies.net in the simplified form described below  (If you send it this way, your pedigree will only be posted on the Patriarch Page, and will not be included in the Pedigree Forum)
Be sure to include

                 E
mail address you wish to be posted with the pedigree
Kit number of the project participant whose pedigree this is
                 N
ame, birthdate, birthplace, spouse for each generation (direct  male line).

2.  Log-in to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum.  By posting your pedigree on the forum, you are making it available for the Project Administrator to post it on the Patriarch Page, along with your contact information, and kit number (or code identity number).

  1. You must be logged in to post on this forum.
How do I register to post a pedigree?
I've already registered. How do I log in?

  2.  Please include your Kit number or Code Identity number if you have been tested for the project.

  3. Please read the following instructions, then scroll down to the last posting on this forum and click "reply" in order to post your pedigree.

  4. The pedigree for a Surname Project follows your paternal line.  Please post only the information for each generation:

Full Name of Earliest Known Male Ancestor for this Surname
His birthdate
Birthplace
Spouse’s name

(If you are missing any piece of this information, post another bit of identifying information)

Suggestions for Posting your Pedigree on this forum:

o        Post four pieces of information for each ancestor

o        Begin with the earliest generation

o        Use standard abbreviations:  m=married, b=born, d=died, c=circa, Co=county, VA=Virginia, GA=Georgia, etc

o        Try to keep to one line per generation

o        Include only generations that have this family surname

o        Provide your name and email address as the pedigree provider

o        Provide the kit number and/or project code identity number if pedigree is for a tested participant

o        Use surname with each generation

o        Don’t use all caps

o        Don’t include anyone whose birthdate is after 1910, for privacy concerns.

o        Don’t number the generations

Scroll down to the last posting on this forum and click "reply". Post your pedigree in the box provided, and click "Post".

If you do not see a"reply" tab, it means you have lost your log in and will need to log in again in order to post. Go back to the project home page, log in again, and return to the pedigree forum. Login should hold the second time.

Hello, I am a descendant of Richard Nance, father to William Nance Sr. , who was father to William Nance Jr., who was father to Reuben Nance, who was father to Mary Sarah Nance who married Jesse Crouch.

I am very new to this site and not sure in doing this. I hope that I have done this correctly.

I have been finding conflicting information on Richard Nance. On Ancestry.com, there is a record of Richard Nance arriving in Virginia in 1639 with his wife Alice. On Sonia's website, it says that he arrived in 1620. There is no mention of his wife, Alice. I am trying to very accurate with my information and documenting everything for myself.

So, in otherwise, I need help.

Hi, Debbie.

Thank you for submitting your pedigree information.  I will post what I can to the Nance patriarch page (http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/nance/pats) but if you have any further information, such as birth/death dates and locations, that corresponds with the names you gave it would be very helpful.

Thanks so much, I hope to hear back from you soon!

Cornwall, England is where our ancestors were for perhaps several thousand years. I've been Deep Clade DNA tested and the "Haplogroup" subclade I am in is I2a2b which confirms the British Isles thousands of years ago.  I encourage a male from each Nance line to be tested.  Here is a link to the Nance DNA project with testing info:

Only a man can be tested for Y-DNA because only men have the Y-chromosome which is passed from father to son and does not change...Chris Nance

From an email sent by Sarah Kemble [sarahkemble1 AT gmail.com]:

"I am the contact person for my brother Grover N. Kemble (FTDNA Kit No. 95862), whose Y DNA has been tested to 67 markers and deep clade tested.  I am being encouraged by the Project Administrator Chris Nance to enroll Grover in the Nance Project, although we know of no one named "Nance"(or any variant thereof) in our ancestry.  Grover's Y DNA is a 67 marker paternal match (genetic distance 4) to one of your project members (Sonia Nance), and I'm glad to join the project in the interest of helping Sonia and possibly getting past a brick wall in my own paternal ancestry.
This is what I know (beginning with Grover's and my Dad). and counting seven generations.  The fifth generation can be pretty well inferred from paper records, the sixth and seventh somewhat less so.

      1.  father:  Dr. Robert Penn Kemble, b. 1905 Mt. Carmel (Northumberland Co.) PA, m. Luella R. North.

      2.  grandfather:  William Penn Kemble, b. 1876 Tower City Schuylkill Co. PA, m. Bertha E. Doty

      3.  gr grandfather:  Isaac Kembel or Kemble, b. 1839 Northumberland Co. PA, m. Matilda Bickel

      4.  2nd gr grandfather:  Adam Kembel, b. 1810 Jackson, Northumberland Co. PA, m. Lydia Zartman

      5.  3rd gr grandfather John or Johannes Kembel or Kempel, b. 1785 or 1790 Northumberland Co. PA , m. Margaret maiden name unknown.  (ancestry inferred from will and deed records naming a son Adam).

      6.  4th gr grandfather Johan or John Adam Kempel, a.k.a. Adam Gample,  birth unknown, est. 1740, m. Catherina maiden name unknown, died 1800 Northumberland Co. PA  (ancestry inferred from deed and will records).

      7.  5th gr grandfather John Campble or Camble, birth unknown est, 1715, marriage unknown, died Northumberland Co. PA 1779  (ancestry inferred only from will records naming this individual and because timeline is consistent with paternity of Johan Adam
           Kempel.)"

This is a posting for my pedigree. As an FYI, we know my grandfather Franklin Alexander Nantz changed the spelling of his surname from Nance to Nantz when he left home at age 17. The information here is well researched and sourced by my mother Mary F. Nantz.

William Nance b. 1819 Lincoln Cnty NC d. 1864 Gordonsville, VA m. Martha Ann Pryor
