In the last couple of days we have had over 160 people join the R-L21 Plus Project, most of whom have not been tested for L21, and many of whom were L21-. Many belonged to other subclades of R1b1b2, like U106 and U152, but some of them were not even in y haplogroup R! A handful of the new members were actually L21+, including a few M222+ guys.

Apparently a bulk email went out from the R1b Project recommending that those who are L21+ join the R-L21 Plus Project. Something slipped, however, in the transmission, because the email was obviously misinterpreted. I am still in the process of cleaning up the mess, and now FTDNA's GAPs are down for maintenance.

Normally, when a new member joins the project, I send him or her a personal email of welcome, advising him where his entry is located on our Y-DNA Results page and whether or not I was able to add him to one of the R-L21 maps. If the person has no Ysearch entry, I ask him to create one, etc. Well, I have been so overwhelmed by this current influx of new members, I have been unable to follow my usual procedure. I have been forced to just clear my inbox and to shuffle people into categories without telling them much of anything. The only people I have really had any contact with are those I immediately cut from the project because they are clearly L21-.

Many of the new members who have not been tested for L21 I placed in our "Need Deep Clade-R or L21 Testing" category. Some of them look likely to be L21+, but they need to order FTDNA's Deep Clade-R test. We have a lot of folks in that category now.

If you joined the project in the last couple of days and are L21+ (including our M222+ guys), I apologize that I had to just shuffle you into a category without being able to send you my traditional "welcome". If you are M222+, your entry is in the R-M222 category. Otherwise, you will have to look for your entry in one of the geographic categories based on where your most distant ancestor was born.

I appreciate other projects referring L21+ men to the R-L21 Plus Project, but something went wrong in this case.

Phew!

I'm sorry you got flooded with mixed haplo types.

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day!

Anyway, I think the email was intended just for L21+ folks but somehow went out to everyone in the R1b Project (some of whom aren't even in y haplogroup R apparently).

I've got it pretty well sorted out now, but that email could keep having effects for awhile as people who haven't checked their email yet discover it.

I've been working my rear end off the last few days tiling a bathroom and a fireplace, so it's been tough to keep up.
