BALLYHALBERT GRAVEYARD

BAILIE, McCORMICK
Erected by their daughters in memory of their father Samuel Bailie of Ballyhalbert who died April 8th 1855 aged 63 years And their mother Mary Bailie who died December 8th 1852 aged 55 years Also their brother, Capt S Bailie who was lost overboard the Mary Stewart, off the coast of Spain 22nd April 1859 aged 32 years Also their brother-in-law Henry McCORMICK who was lost overboard the Daisy off the Mull of Galloway 29th October 1875 aged 39 years.

McCORMICK, COULTER
Here lieth the body of James McCormick late of Rowreagh who departed this life Augt 14 1769 aged 61 years Also Mary COULTER his wife who died Febry 14th 1745 aged 28 years Also their son John McCormick who died Augst 15th 1804 aged 62 years.

Here [lieth] the body [of --- McCo]rmick of B[---- who] departed [this life --- ye tenth 17[33] aged [--] years Here lyeth the body of Mary McCormick [the word MILLER added later] wife to John McCormick of Ballylimp who departed this life March 13th in ye year of Our Lord 17[80] aged 65 years As also two of their children Also their daughter Mary who departed this life [lower part buried].

Sacred to the memory of David McCormick late of Ardkeen, farmer, who died 20th September 1817 aged 59 years And of his wife Sarah McCormick alias WARNOCK who died 13th October 1817 aged 58 years They were lovely and pleasant in their lives And in their death they were not devided Their loss But the muse I control, For why should blind mortals complain, Sure, He who implanted the soul, Has a right to recall it again, Pause genius o'er this hallowed spot, And shed a sympathizing tear, A rural bardess, nature taught, A friend and sister slumbers here, In the same kindred dust are interred five of their children namely David Adam, Samuel, Adam & Sarah Deborah who all died young Also of Adam McCormick, late of Roureagh, farmer, only brother of the above David McCormick, who died the 11th October 1832 aged 78 years.

Here lies the body of Margret McCormack otherwise McMASTER who departed this life Febr the 11th 1804 aged 50 years.

Here lyeth the body of Hugh McCormick, late of Roureaugh, who departed this life April the 4th 1769 aged 51 years Also John & James McCormick his sons both died children Likewise his wife Mary BINGHAM who departed this life March 27th 1794 aged 76 years.

Here lieth the body of Alexander McCormick, an Echlinvale Volunteer His Hon Captain & Companie did him honour at his death & he was buried with ye honours of war He departed this life the 22nd of November in ye year 1781 aged 15 years Here lieth the body of Alexander McCormick, Senior, laite of Ballyhemly He departed this life February ye 2d 1786 in the 82th year of his age.

Erected by John McCormick in memory of his father Robert McCormick of Rureagh who departed this life the 26th August 1817 aged 41 years Also his brother Robert McCormick who departed this life the 28th April 1821 aged 11 years Also his mother Jane McCormick alias WARDEN who departed this life 20th May 1830 aged 48 years.

Erected by Alexander McCormick, Roddons, in memory of his beloved wife Rachel McCormick who died 11th January 1896 aged 30 years Gone but not forgotten In loving memory of the above named Alexander McCormick who died 20th January 1952 aged 79 years Also his second wife Jane who died 5th May 1961.

Erected in memory of Robert McCormick who died on the 17th October 1897 aged 49 years Also his three children, Jane aged 5 years, James aged 7 years and William aged 16 years.

CLEGG, McCORMICK, AGNEW
Erected by John Clegg in memory of his parents Richard Clegg late of Ballyfrench who departed this life 18th July 1825 aged 71 years And his wife Sarah McCORMICK who departed this life 4th Septr 1809 aged 48 years Also their two sons, Andrew and James who died in infancy [sic] Also their son Ritchard Clegg who died 12 Augt 1836 AE 35 years Here is interred the remains of Grace Clegg alias AGNEW, wife of John Clegg, late of the Copland Isle who departed this life the 13th February 1853 aged 73 years.

BLAKELY. McCORMICK
Erected by James Blakely of Ballyfrench in memory of his wife Nancy Blakely alias McCORMICK who departed this life 29th Octr 1819 aged 53 years Also his two sons David & James aged 2 years each The aforesaid James Blakely who departed this life 3rd September 1821 aged 58 years Also his son James who departed this life 3rd March 1823 aged 24 years Likewise his son Andrew who depd this life 22nd October 1831 aged 21 years.

GOWAN, McCORMICK

Here lieth the body of James Gowan, late of Ballyesborough, he departed this life the 12th of March 1775 aged 82 years Also James Gowan, son to David Gowan, he departed this life March ye 14th 1787 aged 34 years Also his wife Margaret McCORMICK, she departed this life ye 15th of March 1787 aged 39 years Also Andrew Gowan, son to David Gowan, departed this life June the 12th 1766 aged 5 years Also Jean Gowan who died a child.

HARKNESS, McCORMICK

Erected by Andrew Harkness, Roddons, in memory of his daughter Jane Harkness who died 16th Feb 1876 aged 16 years Also his son William Harkness who died 20th September 1876 aged 18 years Also his wife Mary Harkness who died 22nd December 1876 aged 40 years Also his son Andrew Harkness who died 9th June 1877 aged 9 years Also his son James Harkness who died 17th May 1885 aged 13 years Also two grandchildren Mary & Andrew Harkness Also the above named Andrew Harkness who died 18th April 1903 aged 76 years Also his second wife Mary Harkness who died 27th July 1915 aged 85 years Also their grandson John McCORMICK who died 5th June 1959 aged 72 years.

Here lieth the body of David McKormeck late of Glastry He departed this life April the 20, 1742 in the 62 year of his age Here lieth the body of his wife Elizabeth McCormick alias ------- She departed the 4 of December 1761 in the 58 year of her age Here lieth the body of Thomas McCormick ---------- to David McCormick He departed this life ber 1743 in the 2[6] [year of his age] Also Mary M[cCormick daughter] to David McCormick, who departed this life January in the 17 year of her age.

Here lies the body of John Mathews late of Ballyhemlin who departed this life Septr 22d 1790 aged 63 years Also his wife Margret Mathews alias McCORMICK who departed this life April 5th 1792 aged 75 years Also Margret Mathews who died Jany 22d 1791 aged 4 years.

This stone was erected AD 1814 by Alexander Mathews of Killyvolgin He departed this life at his place in Springvale the 18th October 1830 aged 79 years Here lies interred the body of his wife Jane Mathews otherwise McCORMICK who departed this life 23d March 1810 aged 53 years.
