Glad to actually have an Irish Nolan interested in our common family history. Have you viewed the following pages and have any males in your family considered joining the Nolan DNA Surname Project?

I have just registered and would like to post my Nolan line. Patrick Nolan was born circa 1825. He married Ellen Cummins. They were my 3 x great grandparents. Their son Patrick, my 2 x great grandfather was born circa 1847. He married Johanna Duggan in Liverpool.
All I know is that they were all born in Ireland. According to the 1871 census of England they came from Clonmel, Tipperary.
Patrick and Ellen married in Ireland as their first two children were born there. They are James Nolan born circa 1845 and my Patrick born circa 1847.
I would love to find out more information and if possible go further back and find the parents of the first Patrick. Can anyone help?

Regards
Carol

The 1900 Census for the State of Washington Adams Co. has a Mark Nowlen born Sept 1861 born Texas with father and mother born in Alabama. He was a farmer. Have you looked at Alabama during that period?

Yes, I think at one point I did a quick search for Nolans in both Arkansas and Alabama, and there were so many that I didn't pursue any of them.  I don't have a first name, or even an approximate birthdate, and no way to link him to Mark's mother.  In the county where his mother lived at the time of his birth, there are records of one Nolan, Littleton Nolan, mustering out for the civil war.  But war records indicate he was born in Tennessee, and there are no records of him after the war...presumably he was killed.  But since the first part of my 25-marker test was an exact 12 point match with N-5, I'm hopeful that the rest of the markers will match and that I can work forward from some of his ancestors.  And then maybe we can upgrade to a 37-marker test, and if I was really lucky that would match and we could be more sure of a recent relationship.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because I think that is the only way I will ever discover the identity of Mark Nowlen's father.

I am looking for the origin of Thomas Nolan from Wexford. Born in 1845 or 1847.  His father's name was Martin Nolan and his mother's name was Ann Tench. Thomas emmigrated to the USA in 1869. His wife's name was Margaret Madden.  I think they were married before coming to America. Margaret's parents were Mathew Madden and Catherine Verlin.  None of the parents ever came over. I have most of the history and contact information once they were here.  What I am really looking for are some suggestions as to how to go about researching records in Ireland. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I am opening this family pedigree on behalf of my first cousin, Joan Marie Nolan Bates born to Ronald Nolan in Syracuse, NY in 1935. Joan passed away in 1982. Her son, Robert Ray Bates born in 1955 has asked me to find his Mother's family information. I know that Ronald's father was James Joseph Nolan born New York 1886 and Mother Fanny F. Prescott born 1890 in New York. Any one who recognizes this family information please help us. Thank you. Suzanne Carole

I responded to the message on the Nolan Family Genealogy Forum.

You might try Ireland Census records at http://www.censusfinder.com/ireland.htm

Below are the Nolans from Griffith's Valuation, but I do not see any Nolans in Westport at http://www.bernieworld.net/Griffiths/WptGT.htm.

I am John Nowlin living in Dallas, TX.  I've hit a genealogical road block at my 2nd great grandfather: David Nowlin b. 1 Sept 1813, TN d. 13 May 1876, Monte Vista, Webster, MS,married to Martha Unknown b. Sept 1828, AL d. after 1900, MS.  I know a good deal about David and his family down to my generation but cannot find his parents. I have seen through my research that the large Bryan Ward Nowlin clan is the most likely group since the name was not changed to a Nolen deriviation.  James Nowlin, son of Bryan Ward Nowlin II seems a possibility as his tree per One World Tree has a lot of blanks.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  My tree is a public tree which can be viewed at Ancestry.com. under the name John Lee Nowlin...thanks

Response to John Nowlin Tree at Roots Web..Glenn, yes, this is my Tree, though my public tree at Ancestry is more recently updated.  I beleive Charles' middle name is Washington...Charles Washington Nowlin.  He is my great grand uncle.   My great grandfather being Alexander Nowlin, his brother. I have a lot of info on Charles, his family, and his wife, Sarah Hillhouse's family too. If you can't access Ancestry please contact me directly and I will forward to you.  Daniel "Webster" Nowlin died young right after his father.  His wife Sarah de Shazo moved to TX with other Nowlin's, their daughter seems to have not married, but the son Edgar did and has progeny.  I will check out TN genesweb...thanks so much for your input.  John
Oh yes, forgot, Charles Washington named one of his many sons Daniel Webster-Nowlin after his brother. His bd being 1876 inTX.  He has progeny also.

Added the information to our Nolan Y-DNA Home page. Has this family considered mtDNA?
