Costa Tsirigakis has communicated the 37 markers value of his maternal uncle (and grandfather). What must I say?
1)   The fact that the closest to him is a Sicilian confirms my old theory, based upon the papers of Capelli and others, that Maltese are above all from Sicily and Calabria, what made them  angry those who believed to a Phoenician ancestry.
2)   This haplotype seems with a high variance respect of other R1b1b2/M269: DYS390=26, DYS388=13, DYS454=12, and also DYS464=15,15,17,17 like the AMH, different for instance from my R1b1b2/L23+=14,14,16,17, etc.
3)   The presence of the oldest haplotype of R1b1b2 (but also of R1b1*: see the latest paper of Cruciani) in the Mediterranean Islands should us think to the theory of the diffusion via sea from East by the first farmers. You know I have supported another theory (the origin of R1b1* and subclades from Italy). In fact what this theory doesn’t explain is how did this haplogroup to become the 90% of some western European country and not the other more certain Eastern haplogroups like E1b1b and J2.

My Darmanin ancestral line is R1b1b2 (L23 -) and is originally from Zurrieq, Malta and can be traced back to 1500s.

The closest mismatch to date is 31/37 markers from Sicily (different surname) - all other mismatches are a GD of 13 or more.

A partial match can also be found in the Capelli et al study.

Thinking again to the Darmanin's haplotype after 4 years:

Of course the first two, now that YHRD tests for the SNPs, should be excluded, but the other three are interesting and match closely his hapolotype, even though lack the most important markers: DYS426, DYS338, DYS454. But these closely haplotypes seem to link again this haplotype to Italy and Western Europe:

but DYS576 of Armanin = 15 is very far from 21.

Perhaps some link with this Armenian there is (he is the unique on the "ht 35 FTDNA Project" with DYS388=13):
174259 Tour-Sarkissian, Hadjin, Turkey    Turkey    R1b1a2
12    24    15    10    11-14    11    13    13    13    13    29    19    9-10    11    11    24    15    19    27    15-15-17-17    11    11    19-23    15    15    17    17    35-37    13    12    11    9    15-16    8    10    10    8    11    10    12    23-23    16    10    12    12    17    8    13    22    20    13    12    11    13    11    11    12    12
and the surname Darmanin could be linked with Armenians with the Italian D' [D'Armanin] for "Di"= of   ...
