The Isham Garrison Records Page

This page will be dedicated to posting any and all records for any Isham, Isom, Isam Garrison, or any other versions of that given name.

An Isham Garrison may be a key link between the Garrisons of early Rowan Co., NC, and some Garrisons later in Missouri, as well as other states.

A line of Isham Garrison may link some Garrisons in Missouri to Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Virginia.

If you have knowledge of any Isham Garrison record that has not been posted here, please email Mary Lee Becker at  mary.becker "AT" sbcglobal.net

All records will be edited into this ongoing page, in order of the date of the record.

All contributors will have their email addresses posted on this page, if they agree to do so.

Isham Garret                  0/0/0/1/1/0    3/2/0/1/0
Note: This may actually be an Isham Garrison. I am including this Isham "Garret," because he is living in Lawrence Co., Ohio in 1820, the same county where Uriah and Reuben Vermillion can be found in 1820. Reuben Vermillion is then in Vermillion Co., Illinois in the 1830 Census, as is an Isham Garrison (see below). In the 1840s, Reuben Vermillion has moved on to Barry and Lawrence  Co., Missouri, as have (you guessed it) families with children named Isham/Isom/Isam Garrison. Two posted family trees have the son of  Reuben Garrison, Reuben Garrison, married to a Mary J. Garrison. There are also records for Garrison Vermillion in Virginia.
Reuben Vermillion's father, Uriah Vermillion, is also listed with the "Tithable of Loudoun County, Virginia" Also listed are Garrisons: Aaron, Alexis, Dunham, John, Moses, Nehemiah Sr., Nehemiah Jr., and William. Please note the birth locations for the listed Isham/Isam/Isom Garrisons, as well as their parents places of birth.]

The first thing to note is that the easiest staple crops to access here are maize, millet, and rice. Yam is also fairly accessible although it seems to be more expensive in the North. Other crops you may hear about are sorghum, cassava, cowpea, and soybean. It’s possible to get these on market days, but after three weeks I’m yet to eat any of them. This may be (and quite likely is) different for other parts of Ghana. The most common fruits here are Mango and grapes though I’ve seen lots of banana, melon, pineapple, and orange as well. Only a little plantain grows here though it’s fairly common in other parts of Ghana. I’m not really sure if avocado is a fruit but I’ve seen them being sold (though I haven’t tried any yet). The common vegetables are tomato, onion, pepper (hot pepper and some sweet peppers from Burkina Faso), Okru (which is a green vegetable that you use the stock of and which I don’t know how to spell. This is the case for many of the other dish names so I’ll write them how they sound), and some other leafy vegetable that I’m yet to identify. Some other notable crops are bean and groundnut.
