Jamie,
Y-Chrom DNA testing has revealed a close match between my SIMMONS line and that of Edward SIMMONS (see pedigree posted by Jaqueline S. Hedberg). We share a rare allele, DYS388=10, in addition to close matches with a total distance of 6 (a difference of 1 in each of 6 markers) in the 37-marker test.
Bennett Greenspan weighed in with his opinion as to our MRCA at about 500 years ago.
Jacqui Hedberg's SIMMONS line is long-established (since the 17th century) in Dorchester County, Maryland; my branch apparently arrived in Virginia ca. 1650-1700, moving into the Carolinas and arriving in Georgia as early as 1775.
Because of place names and pronounciation similarities, Jacqui Hedberg's SIMMONS line have long associated themselves with Cornwall in western England.
