My Gibson family migrated to the US from Northern Ireland in 1768. A descendant tested as J1 (no matches). This makes no sense to me. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,
Carole

Perhaps if you make me know the STRs, I can help you. There are many ways by which J1 has reached Ireland  and above all we should know which J1 is by a SNPs test, but already STRs can be useful.

You have 37 markers and by them we can already understand something. Usually who is tested, he puts his data on Ysearch (having been tested by FTDNA I think you can do it easily pressing a key) and then he can compare his data searching for the closest cousins. Have you had an Ysearch account? and, if not, why don't you create it? By the ID number it would be easily to know your markers' values and begin to hypothesize something about the origin of your J1.

I am on y-search. I think it's under me or Thomas Jefferson Gibson.

Thanks for any help understanding this,

You are on Ysearch (FQ6NH), but without the markers' values it is a little bit difficult to understand something.

I so appreciate your patience. I do not see how to connect the two. Do I do it from Family Tree DNA or from Y-search?

Thanks,

It seems that this haplotype is of Arabian Origin, but at this point it is fundamental to know if the hg. J1 was tested by SNPs or if was given by FTDNA by the markers. If your relative hasn't had a SNP test, I think it would be necessary a "deep clade" to be sure about his true origin.
