How old is M222. Are we certain its origin is Ireland?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I think it bears asking again since the discovery up L21. What are the age estimates for M222? If L21 is approximately 3500 years old, how old is M222 by comparison? I'd like to think there may be another SNP in between!

Are we certain that M222 had its origin in Ireland? I don't see how that is possible, because the "hotspot" is definitely Ireland, but it is also found east of Ireland in Scotland, England and on the Continent. Isn't the general rule with SNPs that the origin is east of the "hotspot"?

I believe Ken estimated it back on 20 May 2008. You might search Rootsweb DNA L Archives for other estimates. The 3,500 figure you cite for R-21 seems to fit in nicely.

G(M222) = 1740 years

G(M222/S28) = 3780 years

G(M222/S21) = 3570 years
