For the Paul Family of Audley Paul you list with PA Paul family.
First let me tell you that at the time Oren Morton published in "A History of Rockbridge" he thought the information about the FATHER of Audley Paul was correct. I have in my possession a subsequent letter from George Diehl, Historian of Rockbridge Co, VA, to my Great Aunt, in which he CORRECTS the information about the Parentage of Audley Paul Sir c.a 1728/30 to aft 2 Sep 1802.
As a result I personally contacted the Presbyterian Church and requested information for all Ministers of that faith that arrived in AMERICA for that time period and there was only one. This was the same person named by George Diehl in his letter to my great Aunt. My source notes regarding the information from the Historian of the Presbyterian Church in America follow this pedigree. Please post a correction regarding the parentage of Audley Paul Sir to the Paul family of PA. I have also included my source notes from the letter by George Diehl to my Great Aunt regarding this same matter.
The real father of Audley Paul is listed in the following pedigree of my lineage. I am a descendant of Audley Paul Sir of Rockbridge Co, PA.
Rev. John Paul b. c.a. 1703, Ulster, Armagh, Ireland, d 1739 in Deer Creek, Baltimore Co (now Harford Co) MD.
He married Margaret [Lynn] of Nottingham, Eng. Rev. John Paul arrived in Chester, Pa in 1736 and was a minister there for a short time and then was sent to minister in Deer Creek, Baltimore Co, MD. His wife, Margaret and the children; Ann Paul, Audley Paul and John Paul stayed in Chester, PA.
After the death of Rev. John Paul, his wife, Margaret married 2nd John Stewart, before Jun 1745, and they also had children.
Capt. Audley Paul Sr. b c.a 1728/31 in Ireland or England, died after 2 Sep 1802 in Botetourt Co, VA. He married Jane Lynn Matthews b. c.a. 1734 d. aft 1802 (dau. of John & Betsy Ann [Archer] MATTHEWS.) Audley and Jane Paul had 8 children that lived to adulthood & of whom there are records. Military history of Audley Paul; I am sending that in a separate email to you as it is quite lengthy and includes my source notes for each event. Land Acquisitions; 15 Jul 1760, 350 acres in the vicinity of the Natural Bridge of Rockbridge Co; 20 Jul 1764, granted 2000 acres in Augusta Co, VA, for military service under the 1763 proclamation by the King of England; 6 Apr 1769 358 acres; 5 Jul 1774 185 acres adjoining his own land by a new grant; after the above dates I have records of SALES of his land only. Will written on 6 Sep 1802 and probated Apr 1810 in Botetourt Co, VA. I will deal more about the FORT of Audley Paul in the separate Email.

She married James Taylor (son of John & Nancy [Barrens] TAYLOR) Ann Paul and her husband had 14 Children, their daughter Nancy 'Fanny' Taylor is my next ancestor.

JOHN PAUL
Was received by the standing committee of Donegal Presbytery
as a licentiate from Ireland, December 10, 1735, and was soon after
called to Nottingham. Thomson "served his edict," and he was
installed the second Wednesday of October, 1736.
He preached at the ordination of David Alexander, at Pequea
in 1738, and was one of the first supplies sent to Deer Creek,
Maryland. He died in 1739, and in June the commission remitted
his bond for twelve pounds, and, the next year, gave his widow one
pound out of the fund.
His tomb remains in the old graveyard near the Rising Sun:
the inscription, nearly obliterated, tells that he died at the age of
thirty-three.

REV Hugh Paul as father, misconception dealt with in the following;
Rev John Paul as the father of Audley Paul was supported by the following sources;
George Diehl, also a descendent of Audley Paul and noted historian of Rockbridge County, VA.
The theory of a Hugh Paul as the father of Audley was presented by Hugh Paul Taylor in "Sketches of Hugh Paul Taylor" a grandson of Audley Paul. This claim was refuted at the time of publication by Charles Stuart, grandson of the widow Stuart. Rev. John Paul's widow, Margaret, married John Stuart after the death of Reverend John Paul.
Many books have inaccurately supported the theory of a Prespeterian Minister, Rev. Hugh Paul as the father of Audley, but there is no record in the Presbyterian Church of a Rev. Hugh Paul, and the record of REV. John Paul has been confirmed by me as well as by Morton Diehl. I contacted the Presbyterian Church Historian at their national archives and had them research all arrivals of Ministers with the name PAUL for the appropriate time frame. There was ONLY ONE, Rev John Paul. This was further supported by research that substantiated his ministry in Chester Co, PA and Deer Creek MD. His wife Margaret, stayed in PA with her children and after the death of her husband, Rev John Paul married John Stuart of Chester Co, PA. They subsequently had children as well.
