If you click on the L21- balloons, a window will pop up identifying the most distant ancestor. Most of those windows should have YSearch IDs listed in them. A few may not, if I couldn't find a YSearch entry for the person.

     Thanks for the invite!! With all of my Scots matches, you might just as well put me down as a Sots L21+

     Now that I match 34/34 with a Scots name, I'm really thinking my line must be from Scotland, or at least the east coast of Ulster.

I'm really glad you're here. I like this alternative to that "other" place with its knuckleheads.

I think Rick might be on to something with his idea of migrating Goidels from NW Germany.

I just got my own copy of Henri Hubert's book (which is really two volumes in one), The History of the Celtic Peoples. Hubert was an extremely brilliant French archaeologist and linguist. The book looks great. I just started reading it. My copy is in mint condition, it's a hardback, and I paid only $17.50 for it on Amazon used.

Right now I am waiting to see some continental L21 results start to pop up. France is looking strong for L21+, and Germany shows some hints that it could be strongly present there, as well, although there are a number of German L21-, too.

Igland, our Norwegian L21+, has a 59/67 match, also Norwegian, Nilssen, who just joined the project and ordered an L21 test (he already has P312+).

We'll see!

I suspect the Scottish L21 ratio would be higher but the maps show a very striking lack of tested folks all down the western Highlands and islands of Scotland (the most endurignly Gaelic part of Scotland).  The east coast had a lot more influx in the Medieval period than the west, mainly from England, France, Flanders etc.

Even without them, R-L21* leads R-P312* in Scotland by over two to one, at least between the R-L21 Plus Project and the R-P312 and Subclades Project.

Anyway, I am L-21 with a Scots line back to 1801 in Glasgow. Alexander Gemmell was my GGG Granfather

My ID at the Y is DDBQ9. I hand entered data from AncestryDNA and just sent Adriano my results from 23andMe. The L-21 came from 23andMe, obviously.

It was close in the very early going, but L21 seems to be running away with Scotland now.

The representation in Scotland generally reflects the population density, with most in the Central Lowlands AKA the Central Belt where half the population lives.
