With all due respect, this is an invalid and uncited linage.  The "three brothers from France, Andrew, Oliver, and James story is just that; a story - most probably from the fraudulent genealogy done by Gustaf Ludvig Ljungberg; a.k.a Gustave Anjou.

There are, so far as I've been able to collect, five versions of the "French muslim pirate Caldwells related to Cromwell, Mary (Queen of Scots), &QE1".  Needless to say, those are all bunk. 

If history time and space aren't enough, the french word for cold is froid and the word for well is puits; so why is it "Caldwell" in french instead of "Froidpuits", if, in fact those same five myths insist the name was because the people lived by a cold well?

Or, how is it that the first recording of the surname shows up in Paisley Scotland in the late 1100s, and the first Lord Chancellor of Scotland was William Caldwell in the mid 1300s if they were from France?

I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, and I'm sure that there are many that have believed this myth, but here's my problem with it; it's uncited and easily proven to be false.  Posting it as a true pedigree is a disservice.

Personally, I think that posting any pedigree without citation should be considered genealogical malpractice.
