We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for this Surname.   Our Surname Project is primarily interested in your Paternal line, as surnames are passed down from father to son, just as the yDNA is passed down.

If you ARE A MEMBER of this Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, send your pedigree by email to WorldFamilies.net at mari@worldfamilies.net.  The pedigree will then be posted on the Surname Project's Patriarchs Page by Worldfamilies.net or sent to the Project’s Administrator.

Please include the following:
•       Name of project
•       Kit Number
•       Name of person posting pedigree
•       Email address to be posted with pedigree
•       Name, birthdate, birthplace, spouse of Earliest Known Ancestor
•       List each succeeding generation, using only those four items of information (or substitute another item of information if missing an item)

(If you have more information you would like to share, you may also post a more extended version of your family pedigree on the project website’s Pedigree Forum below)

Kit: 276289; Most distant relative: Stephen Post, b 1779, Dutchess County, NY.

We suspect that Stephen Post (b 1779-Dutchess county, NY) was probably a descendant of the Long Island, NY, Post family.  The first record we have found of Stephen Post was was the 1810 census in Saratoga county, NY, though the 1855 NY census says he was born in Dutchess County, New York.  His date of birth is known from the 1850 and 1855 census records, plus a calculation from his age shown on his gravestone.

Quaker records document that several members of the the Long Island Post family moved to Dutchess county, NY, prior to the time Stephen was born.  One was Stephen Post (b abt 1750), and another was his half brother, Richard Post (b abt 1735).  The last record of Stephen Post was when he left the Quakers in 1774, and he does not appear on any of the US census records.  1790 census records shows Richard and his son Henry in Dutchess county, near where the Quaker meeting hall was located, and the 1800 census shows a both of them in Saratoga county.  Quaker records confirm Richard's and Henry's movement.

The suspicion is that either Stephen Post (b abt 1750), or Richard's son Henry, might have been the father of Stephen Post (b 1779).  Several sources, including Quaker records, the 1905 book "The Post Family" (which has some issues especially with its older references), and "Long Island Genealogy" document some of the information, but do not provide the link.  Currently location, plus family names, and a borderline Quaker connection, are the only connections.

Stephen Post, who was born in Dutchess County, NY, in 1779, is clearly not the son of documented Stephen Post famies from Connecticut, or the son of the Stephen Post in Suffolk, NY (Who appears to have been a different part of the Long Island Post line.

The followihg are the confirmed lineage details. Hopefully DNA, plus other potential records, might fill the gap.

Stephen Post, b 7 April 1779-Dutchess Co, NY, d 18 Oct 1858, m Patience Deuel

Daniel B Post, b abt 1808-NY, d early 1849-Rock County, WI, m Minerva _
Stephen Post. b 20 Jan 1846-NY, d 28 Jan 1910-Salina, KS, bur. Houston, TX, m Melisa Shaw

Ernest Stephen Post, b 29 Apr 1877-KS, d 27 Nov 1970-Katy, TX, m Mattie Williams

Lynwood Post, b 31 Aug 1907-TX, d 26 Dec 1985-Houston, TX, m Neva Louis Meyer
