Hello,
I am new to genealogical research, looking for my Wheeler Mayo and Manzilla ancestors, both of whom I can trace back to 1850s Virginia, but hit brick walls at that point. I see no surname projects for either, and wonder if anyone else is looking for either Wheeler Mayo in Virginia (mulatto family starting with Ned or Edward Mayo born 1851, married to Rebecca Mayo, son Hayes Wheeler Mayo born 1874 -no idea where the Wheeler originates since I can't find a Rebecca Wheeler...), and the first Manzilla I find is Miles Manzilla born 1799 in VA, with a possible father in Caroline County, VA: Lot or Jessie Munrilla, on the tax rolls in 1795 and 1789, listed as a taxable Black (slave), but I don't understand how slaves would be on the tax rolls with free people, so I assume he must have been free. If anyone is researching related lines or can shed any light on them I'd most appreciate it.
Peace, love, and Happy Holidays, Universal HealthCare Cantaora, Shira D.
