From an email sent by Mary Ransom for Robert Sidney Ransom Jr.:

"I just wanted to communicate a new DNA that my husband RSRansom. Jr. had on the Ancestry DNA match.

Most researchers agree that Peter Ransom (1676) is the father of James 1704.  All records in Gloucester and Richmond  have been burned and every piece of info has been  exhausted.

In the will of our documented James Ransom (1704-1740) m. Grissell Gwathmey he states that he leaves money to his parents who are alive in Gloucester, Va. but does not name them. He leaves money to Richard also. Peter Ransom  has been the obvious father since he and his wife were alive in Va. then.    Richard was deemed his brother. Richard’s birth 1695.

Ann Ransom (1705 ca. ) daughter of Peter(1676) is documented.

It is believed that Richard, Ann and James are siblings. However no documentation.

We received an Ancestry DNA match to Ann Ransom. The Ancestry DNA does random DNA for both male and females.

It is just amazing the mysteries that DNA can help answer.

I sent Doyle Ransom to this site. I am in communication with Bob Ransom in California. He and Sid are matches on FTDNA so we are  partners in crime so to speak. Still searching. He it thrilled that we had a match to Ann Ransom.

We are trying to figure out how they were all related. There were many Ransoms in Virginia and many related.

In the 1700’s  many migrated to NC. There were 3 in NC in close proximity and all had many children. John, son of George, 1st cousin to our James m. to Grissell and Uncle to James m. to Priscilla. There wwre 4 James Ransom’s at one time in NC with adjoining property."
