Dna testing combined with good paper trails has solved several long standing Bender Family mysteries.

Jacob Bender a.1781-1847 married to Catherine May, Margaret Traut Kreigbaum, John Bender and Magdalena, and George Bender married to Eleanor Rhodes, Mary Bender married to John Hunsberger moved from Lancaster County, Pa to Portage and Stark Co., Ohio about 1821.

Jacob Bender born 1800 married Mary Moyer at Lancaster, Pa, in 1825, lived near Mt Joy Boro, Lancaster then moved to Swatara Twp., Dauphin Co.,about 1840. JSBender a descendent participated in 37 Marker Y-Dna testing and matched with MSPainter.

John George Bender born about 1740 moved from Warwick Twp., Lancaster, Pa, to Sherman's Valley, Cumberland Co., Pa, by 1771 then Westmoreland Co., pa, where he died in 1817. His descendent MSP participated in 37 marker Y-Dna testing and matched JSBender of the above line.

A Letter of attorney found at Summit County stated that Jacob Bender noted above married to Mary Moyer was the son of George Bender late of Summit County, Ohio.

With the existing genealogical evidence and the Dna matches we now know the following:

1. Jacob Bender b. 1747-48 of Rapho Township, wife Mary, is Grandfather Bender of the Abraham Hunsberger Story and the father of Jacob, George and John Bender and their sister Mary wife of John Hunsberger of Stark and Summit County, Ohio.

2. Jacob Bender b. 1747-48 and John George Bender b. about 1740 are the sons of John and Catherine Bender of Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa.

3. Jacob Bender b. 1800 who married Mary Moyer of Swatara Twp., Dauphin County, Pa, is the son of George Bender who died in Summit or Stark County about 1841, a son of Grandfather Bender.

Johannes Bender b. est. 1719 & died after 27 April 1782.
Wife: Catharine b. est. 1719 & died after 27 April 1782.

Children:
1.George Bender b. est. 1740 - 37 Marker Y-Dna Match (2-Matches)
2.Johannes Bender b. 1742
3.Jacob Bender b. August 1747 m. Maria (July 1748) – 37 Marker Y-Dna Match (1 match)
4.Henry Bender 11 May 1746 – 3 April 1825 Veronica Eberly
5.Barbara Bender April 1750 m Jacob Roth (prob) (Rhodes)
6.Sabina Bender July 1753 m. George Roth (Rhodes)
7.Catherine Bender b. 1756 – 1757.
8.William Bender b. 2 May 1758
*Also Jacob b. 1777 from a non-Bender line 37 Marker Y-Dna Match

Also, a descendent of George Painter born about 1796 born in Pa, of Campbell County, Kentucky, was a match with MSP, and with the paper trail it is deduced that he is likely the son of Henry Bender/Painter son of John George Bender b. about 1740 who died in 1817 Westmoreland County, Pa, in 1817.

To Date there are 2 person who have submitted a 37 Marker Y-Dna test for John George Bender/Painter born about 1740, 1 for Jacob Bender born about 1747-48. All of us have been working on these lines for over 20 years.

I am now working with the church records in Kirchardt, Grombach, Sinsheim, Adersbach and Steinsfurt, all located in Baden. It appears that at least 4 of the early Bender patriarchs of Lancaster County, John Bender Jr and John Bender Sr of Warwick, Adam Bender of Leacock and Leonard Bender of Lampter were all brothers or first cousins. Y-Dna testing would confirm this if we can locate Bender or Painters willing to participate. Mark S. Painter
