We invite you to submit your "Pedigree" for the Sargent Family Project Patriarch page. (You don’t have to be a test participant to post your family pedigree.)

There are two ways to make your pedigree available to the project administrator for posting on the Patriarch Page:
1.  Send the pedigree by email directly to carrie@worldfamilies.net in the simplified form described below  (If you send it this way, your pedigree will only be posted on the Patriarch Page, and will not be included in the Pedigree Forum)
Be sure to include

                 E
mail address you wish to be posted with the pedigree
Kit number of the project participant whose pedigree this is
                 N
ame, birthdate, birthplace, spouse for each generation (direct  male line).

2.  Log-in to post your pedigree on the Pedigree Forum.  By posting your pedigree on the forum, you are making it available for the Project Administrator to post it on the Patriarch Page, along with your contact information, and kit number (or code identity number).

  1. You must be logged in to post on this forum.
How do I register to post a pedigree?
I've already registered. How do I log in?

  2.  Please include your Kit number or Code Identity number if you have been tested for the project.

  3. Please read the following instructions, then scroll down to the last posting on this forum and click "reply" in order to post your pedigree.

  4. The pedigree for a Surname Project follows your paternal line.  Please post only the information for each generation:

Full Name of Earliest Known Male Ancestor for this Surname
His birthdate
Birthplace
Spouse’s name

(If you are missing any piece of this information, post another bit of identifying information)

Suggestions for Posting your Pedigree on this forum:

o        Post four pieces of information for each ancestor

o        Begin with the earliest generation

o        Use standard abbreviations:  m=married, b=born, d=died, c=circa, Co=county, VA=Virginia, GA=Georgia, etc

o        Try to keep to one line per generation

o        Include only generations that have this family surname

o        Provide your name and email address as the pedigree provider

o        Provide the kit number and/or project code identity number if pedigree is for a tested participant

o        Use surname with each generation

o        Don’t use all caps

o        Don’t include anyone whose birthdate is after 1910, for privacy concerns.

o        Don’t number the generations

Scroll down to the last posting on this forum and click "reply". Post your pedigree in the box provided, and click "Post".

If you do not see a"reply" tab, it means you have lost your log in and will need to log in again in order to post. Go back to the project home page, log in again, and return to the pedigree forum. Login should hold the second time.

Need to add this to my tree.
In researching James Sargent is the big mystery. On census records it states he was born in New Hampshire but cannot find actual birth records or other family members.
It has been passed down the line that he changed his name and was not orginally Sargent.
If anyone out there has info please let me know. Its like the "Somersby"  I guess.

I am not sure if the first two ancestors of this line are correct. We are hoping to match with other Sargent's but so far it does not look like my Sargent family connects to earlier Sargent's of Massachusetts. My earlier know descendant's are not listed or documented in any of the known documented lines of William Sargent of Amesbury(that includes Salisbury, Newbury and Ipswich), not listed in any documentation of William Sargent of Gloucester,(Epes line) or the William Sargent of Charlestown(that includes the towns, Malden, and Barnstable). Yet my Sargent's first are found in Boston . I located a baptism on my first known ancestor, Samuel Sargent(or Sergeant) who married Bethany Smallidge of Boston, MA at the New South Church in Boston. From there, I was able to track back with records(if these are the correct people)to a father and mother by the name Thomas Sargent, who married 1st, an Elizabeth Tompson, 2nd Frances (Ellsworth) Looke(widow of Israel Looke), and his parents in Church records were or would be, Thomas Sargent and Ruth Johnson(Ruth remarried John Barry by 1713, after the first Thomas Sargent dies in Boston) I first find my first Thomas, located and mentioned as being given a grant of 100 acres of land in or near Fort Pemaquid, Maine abt 1687 by Col Thomas Dongan, Duke of NY. The only people with the surname Sargent living near this Thomas may be LT John Sargent, who was supposed son of Mr Stephen Sargent who came to this Country in 1632, who deposed in Court he came in the Ship Fortune at Newbury and later ran the Shiipping operation for John Winter at Richmond Island and
Isle of Shoals, where Stephen Sargent drowned in 1649 and his estate inventoried by many people who were interested.. Here is a supposed line to my grandfather William Delos Sargent(deceased). We are more than likely at least realted to the first Thomas who m. Ruth Johnson in probably Maine. Who were his parent's?

Two pedigrees don't agree with the DNA results.

The pedigree, starting with Hugh Sargent (b.1530; Haplogroup R1b) shows a grandson, William (b.1606), but he is in Haplogroup E!

The first two Sargent immigrants to America (well documented in the literature) were:

1) William (b.1606) of Ipswich, MA (m. Eliz. Perkins) is E1b1b1, and
2) "Reverend" William (b.1602) of Charleston (m. Hannah, Mary, Sarah)

The father of the "Reverend" (b.1602) was Roger Sargent (b. 1560), and the father of William (1606) is Richard (b.1570).  There is no disagreement there.  But some genealogies have Hugh being the father of Richard and some Roger. However, The DNA results show Hugh could not have been the father of Richard (which is what the current pedigree shows), since he was the father of William of Ipswich (b.1606), who is in a different Haplogroup.

And the DNA results agree with the book by Aaron Sargent, "Sargent Genealogy : Hugh Sargent, of Courteenhall, Northamptonshire and his descendants in England," published 1895.  This book is on-line at:

   http://www.archive.org/details/sargentgenealog00unkngoog

It is well documented that Roger was Hugh's son.  Although he did have a son named Richard, all that is known about that Richard is that he married a widow named Jane Green.  The Richard in the Sargent pedigree married Katherine Steavens!

Therefore, the pedigree for Hugh Sargent needs to be changed and separated from the pedigree of William of Ipswich (b.1606) and his father Richard.

I suggest: Hugh => Roger => Reverend William of Charleston (1602), as a separate pedigree, which someone who has that line can add to, maybe dbsargent@comcast.net

You can keep the pedigree of Richard => William (1606)... with no other changes, except the removal of Hugh as their ancestor.

Sincerely,

Keith Sargent
