Hello to all Kolbs and relatives. The Kolb, Kulp and Culp Family Association of Penna. will hold their annual reunion next June at the Lower Skippack Mennonite Church and celebrate the 300th anniversary of the arrival of the first Kolb brothers to America in 1707. Jacob, Martin and Johannes Kolb first settled in Germantown. This family association is beginning to look at the DNA testing as an important tool in understanding family relationships. One important relationship would be to confirm that the Johannes who arrives in South Carolina before s1750 is the same man who came to Germantown in 1707. The evidence is not rock solid, but if a known descendant in SC took the Y chromosome test and his results matched known Kolb descendants from the brothers here, we would be sure that the suspected relationship was true. This would be a very important confirmation. Another possibility would be for descendants of Hans Casper Kolb who came to Penna. and then to the Carolinas to be tested to test the idea of his relationship the these early Kolb brothers. This second relationship is less well substantiated. We have one test in process for the Mennonite Kolbs and there should be more to come. It would be great if we had some comparitive results by next June to mark the 300th anniversary. The tests from Family Tree DNA cost about $170 dollars, but there could be compensation from interested parties.
