Hello,
My husband has been stuck on his Swartz's for years .... he has what he knew here:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~jmbhome/chbweb/2schwartz.htmlToday, doing a soundex search on ancestry.com, we are pretty sure we have made a breakthrough! We knew that the family lived in Brush Valley, Indiana County, PA. We have the censuses back to 1860. Looking in 1850, we found three men, Joseph, Robert and Peter, close in age, all living fairly close to each other in Wheatfield, Indiana County. The family members have the correct names and dates for Joseph's family. However, Joseph and Robert go by the names Swartzwalder and Swartzwelder, while Peter uses the name Swartz. In 1860, the families live in the same areas, but all use the name Swartz, and there is another man, George of the right age to be a brother. We found a Peter Swartzwelder in 1840 who looks to be the right age to be the father of all these men, but we cannot yet prove it. We are assuming this is the correct family, with a name change, and are now trying to learn more about this line.
Unfortunately, my husband's connection to this line is through his mother's mother, so he cannot participate in the DNA study. His mother is still alive and he will ask if she knows of any living males ... Any suggested resources or pointers are greatly appreciated!!!
